Ridley Scott ‘Monopoly’ Film Gets Writers
Hasbro has certainly had success in the movie industry with its properties.
Transformers turned into a major franchise with
G.I Joe likely following suit. Board game properties have been another story of late, with Universal backing out on its deal with films such as
Ouija and
Clue.
But despite a similar fate for the Monopoly movie,
THR reports producer and director Sir
Ridley Scott (that's right) and Hasbro are making progress, recruiting writing partners
Scott Alexander and
Larry Karaszewski.Alexander and Karaszewski have a long history in Hollywood, writing scripts for
Ed Wood,
The People vs. Larry Flynt and
Man on the Moon. Yet for each of those films in their filmogrophy, there's
Problem Child,
That Darn Cat and
Agent Cody Banks.
This project has been in development for three years, leading many to believe it was going to fall by the wayside like its board-game brethren. Scott has said and others have reported at different times that it will have “a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic
Blade Runner,” but given the family nature of the property, it will likely also be kid-friendly.
Scott has most recently been attached to a new
Blade Runner film, so this one is probably a long way off if it happens.
