Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling in Talks to Join ‘A Wrinkle in Time’

Disney has put a lot of stock in an a big screen adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, already having the talents of Ava DuVernay (Selma) and Jennifer Lee (Frozen) working as director and screenwriter with Oprah Winfrey being cast as Mrs. Which. Now The Wrap has reported two more actresses have entered into talks to join the movie, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling. Published in 1963 A Wrinkle in Time is a critically acclaimed science fiction/fantasy novel by Madeleine L'Engle. The won the Newbery Medal, Seqouyah Book Award and Lewis Carroll Shelf Award and was the runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award and was the start of the Time Quintet. A Wrinkle in Time is about a Meg Murry, a young girl who sets out find her scientist father, working with her brother and their friend. Along the way they meet three celestial beings, Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Kaling) who help the young trio during their quest across the universe. Mrs. Whatsit is described as a very old and dishevelled woman who is the best communicating with the children and Mrs. Who is a plump woman with spectacles who recites quotes and speaks a number of languages. reese-witherspoon-mindy-kaling Despite the praise the novel has received it has only been adapted once as a TV film in 2003 and was met with negative reviews. The novel has also been adapted into a play by James Sie for the Lifeline Theatre in Chicago, John Glore in 2010 and Tracy Young for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It has also been adapted as an opera. A Wrinkle in Time is a promising prospect considering the talent involved and it is reassuring to see a big property like this having a female led creative team. The movie is set to be released on April 16, 2017.
