GoldenEye Reloaded Announced

Activision announced that GoldenEye Reloaded will be coming to the PS3 and 360. The game is a full overhaul to the Wii GoldenEye,
and will feature a brand new game engine giving it an HD makeover. The
game will offer all that was in the Wii version, but on the PS3 version
it will retain the motion control option using the Move. It will also
include a new mode called “Mi6 Ops Missions” where you can replay
missions from the campaign under new requirements (i.e. Stealth,
Assault, Defense, and Elimination). As far as multiplayer goes, it will
offer up to 16-player online co-op, and the 4-player split screen (of
course).

This Week on PS3 – July 26th, 2011

Another week of the summer doldrums. We’re really in the dog days now,
as there’s only a single game new to brick and motor shops today. At
least it’s an intriguing one. Still, now’s definitely the period to go
back through the backlog and finish off all those games you left behind
when the market was flooding with new stuff.

Suda 51’s Next Game: Lollipop Chainsaw

I’m already excited to play Suda 51’s
next game and it may never even release outside of Japan, but boy do I want it to.
In the latest issue of the Japanese magazine Famitsu, Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture,
creators of No More Heroes and the recent Shadows of the Damned, have revealed
their next game and it stars a cheerleader with a super powered chainsaw
carving up zombies in between shooting laser hearts while she wears a severed
(and somehow still alive) head on her belt. The game is titled Lollipop Chainsaw and stars Juliet,
this kick-ass looking girl who happens to be from a long line of zombie hunters:

Team Ico Collection Dated and Will Include Bonus Content

I
am all set to get my hands on the Team Ico collection. It is slated for
non-Japan regions and it’s coming with some nice extras.
The official date of release is September 27, 2011 for the United States
and the month of September for other countries. A bonus disc, that
includes extra feature videos, comes with all of the collection copies.
The disc contains videos about the studios’ work, and a preview of their
next big PS3 title: The Last Guardian. Sony has
been sketchy on the exact details of the disc, but from the sounds of it, we
should expect a mix of things like interviews, a studio tour and perhaps some
making-of behind the scenes stuff. There will also be
two dynamic themes included: one for Ico, and one for Shadow of the Colossus.

‘Dead Rising 2: Off the Record’ Electric Crusher Trailer

There still
isn’t a ton of information available for the upcoming reworking of Capcom’s Dead
Rising 2
from last year. But this trailer is certainly pretty
cool, showing off one of the new combo weapons by combining a car battery and
a sledgehammer
you can basically tear stuff up Thor style. Also spotted in the
trailer is a new icon for receiving radio transmissions that looks a lot like
an ear piece instead of the usual walkie-talkie. Hopefully this means that you
won’t have to stop mutilating zombies to find out whatever the person on the
other end needs to tell you.

Prototype 2 Gets a Release Date

Good news if
you’re planning on heading down to this year’s Comic-Con because you will be
able to get a look at Prototype 2. While the first game definitely didn’t come
without its share of problems, there was no doubt that it had potential.
Hopefully this time around there won’t be the sea of Prototype vs. Infamous
talk that smothered the game back in 2009.

Capcom Reveals Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Trailer

This comes
as truly great news to me and hopefully to anyone else that missed out on MVC3.
Much like Street Fighter 4 before it, MVC3 is to get an upgrade and a
re-release because Capcom just can’t stand the thought of only releasing a game
once, or even twice in some cases. Anyway, Ultimate MVC3 will come with, count
them, 12 new fighters for you to enjoy. That’s a pretty big increase to the
roster and it just gets better when you find out who those fighters are going
to be.

Voltron Game Announced

THQ announced at this year’s Comic-Con that they have been working on a game based on the old Voltron
cartoon. The game will offer up to five player co-op, and allow you to
play as one of the lions that make up Voltron. Whether or not you can
play with up to five players locally wasn’t mentioned.
As
a childhood favorite I’m personally excited, though at the same I’m
also a bit worried. While I have fond memories of the show, I haven’t
broken the cardinal rule of not revisiting childhood favorites. That
being said, Voltron is unwatchable to me now. Though it doesn’t
change the fact that it was a great show for older geeks like myself
when we were young.
As for the game, I hope they change the voice acting from the show, or
give it some better quality. But if the game is cheap enough I’m sure
many other geeks will be picking it up or downloading it on PSN or Xbox
live this October.

This Week on PS3 – July 19th, 2011

I haven’t had much time to play games in the last week, because I’ve
been too busy reading a book. Can you believe it? What is a guy who
writes about video games doing reading a book? Anyway, there’s nothing
mindblowing coming out this week, though there are a couple things that
look to be worth checking out.
