With TGS in full swing, Sony has been blowing it up with PlayStation Vita games. Konami announced Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders and today Namco Bandai has announced on the PlayStation Blog a new Katamari game that is in development for Vita.
Kojima announced at TGS that the HD remake collections of Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders will also be making their way to the Vita –
both of course featuring the new “Transfaring” feature. The games are
not alone, though, as Kojima had more up his sleeve with a new title in
the works that will feature Transfaring, and thus be on both the PS3 and
Vita.
While
the announcement of a new game featuring Transfaring is surprising, it
really wasn’t unexpected. It only made sense that at least the Metal Gear Solid collection as a whole would be coming to a portable system. Seeing that most Metal Gear Solid fans beat Peace Walker
a little more than a year ago, they’d probably need more of an
incentive to try the new system. Also, it’s an easy port to the Vita.
I can not read Japanese at all, but an update to Square-Enix’s official Final Fantasy XIII-2 site has a picture of an absolutely gorgeous special edition Playstation 3, as seen below, and a Japanese release date.
An interview found on GamesIndustry.biz (original story here)
talks about the intentions of GameStop to come out with their own tablet in the
near future. You may have noticed
the signs in the GameStop windows advertising that they are going to start
accepting iOS for trade now, so this news may or may not be a shocker. With the amount of money and popularity
that is going into the tablet and handheld market, this move by GameStop really
is not that much of a surprise, but the success (or failure) of a tablet
supported by a store like GameStop could change the store drastically.
At the Square-Enix press conference, Square announced that it plans on following in the footsteps of many others in the industry and release a new HD rerelease from the Final Fantasy series.
An interesting, if cryptic, post hit the Playstation blog today with a call for the “ultimate Playstation gamer”, or gamers to be more precise, as they’re looking for “a few”. It’s all very vague.
Sony
has tried to push a lot of products on us these days. There’s been
3DTVs, motion controllers like the Move/Sixaxis, and UMDs. With the
exception of Blu-ray, Sony has yet to really sell their ideas. As much
as they try it seems they can’t grab the majority for one reason or
another. However, one interesting idea to come out of Sony might
actually be going somewhere.
While not giving a specific date, Rockstar has stated that Max Payne 3 – the long delayed sequel to the popular 2003 bullet-time shooter – will be released sometime in March 2012.
So far, the multiplayer will
be included and the original game will be available for mobile devices
with improved controls, textures and a general HD upgrade. It will be
interesting to see what it
looks and plays like. I’d love to play a cover shooter as a character
who isn’t just another generic-looking soldier type. If the gameplay is
solid in the new game, I might
just have to pick it up.
From Dust, winner of Game Critic’s Awards Best Strategy Game of E3, is
coming to PlayStation Network on September 27. In From Dust, players
are given the power of The Breath, described as a mysterious power used
by primitive tribes to battle against the forces of nature. The game
allows players to take advantage of the elements in the environment to
complete objectives and make areas of the level accessible to their
tribe. For example: players can collect lava out of the crater of a
volcano to construct a mountain or wall. Other level elements like sand
and water can be collected and deposited where the user sees fit.
