Space Marine Co-op DLC Dated

The highly anticipated downloadable co-op mode for one of the most successful games of the year has finally been given a release date.

On October 25th, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, relic’s latest offering for Warhammer fans the world over, will receive a sizable free update including a full co-op mode called Exterminatus on 360, PS3 and PC.   It will be playable by up to four players, carry over all the perks and unlockables from competitive multiplayer, and feature the same three character classes of Tactical, Assault and Devastator.  Like all good survival horde modes, you will be pitted against wave after wave of increasingly tough enemies and forced to defend your position at all costs.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Revealed

A sequel to 2010’s Transformers: War for Cybertron has been revealed, entitled Fall of Cybertron.

War for Cybertron was, arguably, the best Transformers video game released to date, due largely to having a reasonable development cycle and budget, as well as notbeing forced to release alongside a film or TV series as per standard for licence-based games.  While I can’t imagine it sold anywhere near as many copies as the abysmal train wreck of mediocrity that was the Dark of the Moon film-game released this year, it is nice to know Activision is still allowing High Moon to geek-out once again with the Transformers through the Cybertron titles.

Digital High Episode 12

Hold onto your socks, because Vince talks about a game he likes, which is Rage. I discover the explosive hidden gem that is Split Second and, as always, Donna helps us discuss the week’s news and stories from the video game world. Gears 3 holds the best launch this year with 3 million units sold in a week. We talk quite a bit about Sony’s new advert for the PS3 and what exactly the core message is behind it, and that new Syndicate trailer turned out to be quite awesome indeed.

In other news: Mass Effect 3 multiplayer rumors still continue, LA Noire studio Team Bondi are officially shutting down, an RPG based on the popular Game of Thrones TV series will hit sometime in early 2012 and, what everyone has been waiting for, an app for the windows phone that turns it into a 360 controller. Finally, I can throw out all those clunky pads and use my 360 properly.

You can catch all the episodes of Digital High on the official podcast page! http://playeraffinity.com/podcast.html

Playstation Steps Up Its Downloadable Exclusivity with “Only for PSN”

A system is only as strong as its downloadable content, and with the announcement of “Only for PSN” this morning on the Playstation blog, Playstation looks to be throwing its hat into the ring with Microsoft.  While the Playstation Network was never necessarily lacking in content between PS1 classic releases for around 6 dollars a piece in addition to the more expansive, cross-platform games, the amount of games that were PSN exclusive were not as vast as, say, Xbox Live exclusives.  A while back, there was an announcement that Playstation had spent roughly $20 million dollars on content exclusive to the PS3 and the result of that enterprise is this program. In addition to releasing an expanse of downloadable games, Sony plans to release PS2 classics such as God Hand and Maximo: Ghosts to Glory.

PSN users can now look forward to experiencing the top down indie vehicular gore-fest Zombie Driver. Chrono Trigger coming to PSN

Now here is a well beloved rpg I’ve always been interested
in trying out: Chrono Trigger.

Next week, on Tuesday – October the 3rd, Chrono Trigger will be available on the PlayStation Network.  You’ve most likely heard of it as it’s often hailed as one of the greatest role playing games of all time, up there with the likes of Baulders Gate 2 and Diablo 2.  No price has been announced or confirmed yet, but Charles McCarter, Product Manager at Square Enix, has also hinted at Chrono Cross getting similar treatment in the future on PSN.   As far as is known, this is a straight port of the original game, no assets are being re-made for high definition or anything like that, but being a downloadable title that will hopefully be priced reasonably this shouldn’t prevent those who are interested from checking it out.

Risk + Metal Gear Solid

Last week, Konami announced their next venture for the Metal Gear Solid franchise: board games.  RISK: Metal Gear Solid Limited Edition, more specifically. Utilizing elements from the video games, such as Metal Gear Solid-specific black-market weaponry, eight different mercenary boss characters,  Drebin’s shop, and the Outer Haven battleship, players will take control  of up to five different PMC armies and try to take control of the world!   With the classic, at least classic 2008, rule set and two new rule sets  specific to this edition, there are a variety of ways to play and with  nigh 300 custom game pieces, custom game board, and box art by franchise artist Yoji Shinkawa, a collector of video game merchandise could  certainly do a whole lot worse than this.  Presales begin on Monday,  October 3rd, exclusively at USAopoly.com for $49.95.

As someone who doesn’t have enough friends to get a good game of RISK going, is anyone else super stoked for this?
