Digital High Episode 25

Good news for anyone that still hates Microsoft Points this week because it looks as though by the end of this year, they will no longer exist. Rumour has it that Microsoft will be going the rout of PSN and just charging money instead of buying points at pre-determined amounts. There is also going to be another Neo Geo console released in the form of a handheld with games built right in, Saints Row 3 ships almost 4 million copies and gaming companies are still continuing to rip each other off. Don’t worry, it’s nearly February, so we should have better news and new games to talke about soon!

Max Payne 3 Delayed Until Rockstar’s Favorite Month (May)

In a move that is both disappointing and also a bit puzzling, Max Payne 3 has been delayed until May 15th (in North America) and May 18th (in Europe). The original release date for what is looking to be one of Rockstar’s huge releases was March 6th, and with the announcement only coming a few days ago, it makes me wonder why they decided to go with the extra delay. One thing to note is that it will be releasing on almost exactly the same day as LA Noire was released in 2010 and Red Dead Redemption was released in 2009.

Now there are two main theories that I have as to why there is such a delay. One is that they have a history of releasing very critically strong games in May, and they may just feel safer with it coming out at that time (also, there is really nothing that comes out in May, which gives them the opportunity to sell a lot more copies for people looking for games). The other, much more unlikely, theory that I have is that it was delayed so that later in the year, they can give either much more news or a solid release date for GTA V. With the added knowledge that they pretty much own May, they could announce a May 2013 release for GTA V (keep in mind, this is purely speculation). With only 2 months until release, what games will you be looking to hold your time until the release of Max Payne 3?

Digital High Episode 23

This week on Digital High we talk about boobs, Ivy’s from Soul Calibur 5 to be more precise and how they can still cause controversy even now after so many years of Voldo being way more creepy and unsafe for children. As always we go over what we have been playing, which covers Resistance 3, Saints Row 3 and the first notable release of 2012 and that is Qube. Just in case you don’t quite get my sentiments from the podcast, you really need to play Qube, like now.

Killzone 1 Coming to PSN

Despite what many may call a lackluster ending to the third iteration, the Killzone series has always been one of the bigger exclusive trilogies for Sony.  With no real solid news on any release of Killzone 4, Guerilla Games (one of the main developers behind the franchise), has decided to put the original Killzone on the PlayStation Network, with the very reasonable price point of $9.99.  Seeing as this is a full length, roughly 8-10 hour game, a price point of $9.99 is quite reasonable.  There has been no further news as to whether or not it will be released in an HD format, but the release date has been set as January 24th.

I’m not 100% sure if this release of Killzone is part of the Only On PSN promotion where Sony has been releasing exclusive PSN games and classic PS2 games, but the price is such as to where I would not be surprised if it sold quite a bit of copies, not only to those who are just looking to complete their collection and do not have a backwards compatible PS3, but also to those who are just looking to play a competent PS2 shooter that has extremely beautiful sequels, both graphically and gameplay wise.
