Wheels of Destruction coming to PSN
In the wake of Twisted Metal we now have the first decent looking independent car combat game on its way, and this one is exclusive to PlayStation Network.

Bioware announced today on Twitter that the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo, which became available on Tuesday, is now open to everyone. The cooperative multiplyer access was originally scheduled to go public on Friday (2/17), but with all the positive feedback they’ve been getting it’s not surprising they decided to make it available to all a day early.
Thatgamecompany is a name that doesn’t really mean much to anyone who isn’t that big of a gamer. In fact, even if you listed the games that Thatgamecompany has developed, most non-gamers would not be able to recognize the titles, let alone describe the gameplay.
But for those of us who have played this generation of consoles and have been particularly fond of the “indie” genre, Thatgamecompany is a name that we have learned to cherish. Between Flow and Flower, Thatgamecompany has done well in securing a fan base and developing games that are unlike anything else that is out on the platform. Their newest release, Journey, has been getting quite a bit of prelaunch hype, and for very good measure. Their traditional style of simplistic gameplay with beautiful graphics is present in Journey, but the road to release has been plagued with hiccups. After being delayed multiple times though, it looks like Journey may be coming much sooner than we think. A recent preview article in Game Informer stated that “No matter how you describe [Journey], it’s a title that should absolutely be on your radar as we near its release in March.” While Game Informer is certainly not the know all for release schedules, their rumors often turn out to be quite true, and a release next month would give it little competition (in the market that it is appealing to)
In case you’ve missed the ongoing story from the past few days; following the Notch (Minecrafts creator if you didn’t know) and Double Fine’s discussion that happened over Twitter which is now rumoured to be resulting in a possible Psychonaughts 2, Double Fine has continued their unusual activity by starting a kick-starter for another project.
In case you missed Codemasters latest off-road outing they’re re-releasing it for $20 dollars less and it comes with a tonne of free dlc content on this disc.
Regardless of my opinions on the state of HD Remakes, the fact remains that this Tuesday (the 7th), the newest HD Collection pack will release in the form of the Jak and Daxter Collection. This seems to make sense, as the Jak and Daxter series is fairly highly regarded, and there is a high likelihood that stores will sell a lot of copies.
But the interesting part to me comes in the way that they have decided to distribute the game. As per usual, there will be a disc out in stores that one can buy for $39.99 that includes Jak 1, 2, and 3, but there is also going to be a digital distribution that will make it so that you can download any and all of the three games separately, which means that if you didn’t care for the third but really enjoyed the first two, you can download the first two onto your console and completely bypass the disc.
MLB The Show, arguably the best baseball game, brings two new gameplay wrinkles to MLB 12. Zone Analog Batting combines the Zone Batting mechanic with Analog Batting to provide, what San Diego Studio’s believes, the most realistic batting simulation available. Zone Analog Batting allows the batter to swing with the right stick and choose their hitting location with the right. Timing is key in giving yourself ample time to read the pitch and select your hitting zone. Poor timing and plate coverage will drastically affect the quality of contact on the ball, assuming you didn’t whiff, leading to pop flies, ground balls and easy outs for the defense.
Continuing with the oh-so-wonderful (yes that was sarcasm) trend of retailer specific pre-order bonuses; Lollipop Chainsaw is now joining what seems like most other studios in making extra game content exclusive to wherever you purchase from.
Playstation Network will be undergoing scheduled maintenance tomorrow until Friday, so don’t panic and assume the worst has happened when you can’t log in. This will not affect trophies as they will sync up as usual (as if you had been playing offline) when Playstation Network comes online again this coming Friday at 7 a.m. GMT.
To say that 2012 has been pretty bare on the release front would be quite the understatement. While there has been some DLC and a few interesting titles released, the release front has been a little barren.
But do not fret my friends, because this week, we are blessed with the release of three big titles, which come in the forms of Soul Calibur V, NeverDead, and Final Fantasy XIII-2.
