Digital High Episode 29

Killzone 3 Multiplayer going free to play, a new Medal of Honor, a new Assassin’s Creed, that’s right, finally some news to really sink your teeth into this week. It’s not all good though (if you couldn’t already tell by the MoH news), more job cuts and UK retailer GAME certainly seem to be in a rough spot to say the least.

BioShock Infinite Gets Release Date In October

After extremely strong performances at pretty much every show that it has been presented at, BioShock: Infinite (the second BioShock game developed by Irrational Games) finally has a much more solid release date other than Fall 2012, and that date is October 16th (for North America), and October 19th (for the rest of the world).  If you can recall the feature article that we did a while back, BioShock: Infinite was the game that I was (and still am) most looking forward to this year, so to see it get a solid release date is always good news, even if the date itself is a little far away.

Most of the information that we have about the actual gameplay of BioShock: Infinite came from the 15-minute demo that was presented at E3 2011, but considering the date that it will be released, and that E3 is in June, there could be a chance that there will be a playable build of Infinite at this years E3, which I find much more intriguing than the demo presented last E3.  Between the release of BioShock: Infinite (on the 16th), and Assassin’s Creed III (on the 30th), October is quickly shaping to be a month of very heavy hitters, somewhat akin to the late year flood of tremendous games in 2011.

Jet Set Radio to Release on XBLA and PSN

The Jet Set franchise has been one that has been fairly highly regarded by fans, so it should not come as too much of a surprise that Jet Set Radio will soon be blading (pardon the pun) onto Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStaion Network in the near future.  Radio joins the list of Sega games that have seemed to make their way onto the current gen downloadable spheres, but unfortunately, most of the information known about the release ends there.

The source of this came from a recent video that Sega uploaded onto YouTube, which can be found here, and the amount of information that is given is minimal to say the least, but will definitely quench the thirst of those longing for a rerelease.  Because the news itself ends there, I would like to now try to engage in a discussion as to whether a roller blading game will still play within the current generation of consoles.  Jet Set Radio came out in 2000, and things have changed quite a bit since its release.  Do you think that it will end up being a big hit for Sega, or do you think that rereleasing such a game is only pandering towards the previous fans, and the gameplay does not hold up with current times?

Borderlands 2 Doomsday Trailer

While I highly doubt that there will be anything near 87 bazillion guns in Borderlands 2, if you are hungry for more Borderlands then this trailer certainly has what you want. I never got hooked on the original game like so many others did, partly because of how essential playing with other players is for its enjoyment, so I’ll be diving in early this time around to see if that can alter my view of the sequel. Borderlands 2 is set for release on September 18 on Xbox360, Playstation 3 and PC.

PlayStation Vita Launches This Wednesday in United States and Europe

There have been multiple discourses about the future of handheld gaming and whether or not the future will come in the form of a traditional handheld produced by Nintendo or Sony, or whether the market has clearly taken a turn toward mobile gaming, which will make dedicated handhelds obsolete.  If you look at the sales numbers for the Nintendo 3DS, there is a clear indication that handheld gaming clearly is taking quite a beating from the mobile market, but Sony hopes to change this with the release of the PlayStation Vita, which drops this Wednesday in North America.

Although the Vita has already been out in Japan for a few months (it was released in mid December 2011), North Americans and Europeans alike will soon be able to have their first impressions of the system, and it’s surprisingly stacked launch title lineup.  Perhaps the most impressive game to drop at launch for the Vita is Uncharted: Golden Abyss, yet the reviews of it so far have been, let’s say, less than satisfactory.  Despite a possibly iffy launch lineup, Sony has previously stated that they hope to have the Vita be a 5-10 year product, and with such heavy hitters as Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Media Molecule, and Geurilla getting behind the system, it certainly looks as if the Vita may be the system to overthrow the mobile market boom.
