Coming in November, IDW Publishing will be kicking off a big comic book event for its Transformers line. The "Dark Cybertron" storyline will begin in Transformers: Dark Cybertron #1 and continue in alternating fashion in Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye and Transformers: Robots in Disguise. The epic twelve-part series is the first time a storyline has run in both of these series. Adding to the excitement is the announcement that artist Phil Jimenez (Infinite Crisis) will be a major force in the storyline.
In addition to providing layouts to the kick-off issue, some covers and variant covers throughout the series, Jimenez has also been working with writer James Roberts and series editor John Barber in planning the storyline. Jimenez will be joined in art duties by a number of pencillers, including Transformers: Robots in Disguise artist Andrew Griffith. Hasbro will be releasing a special series of action figures to go along with "Dark Cybertron," with Jimenez designing the figures. In an interesting bit of cross-promotion, some of these action figures will come with a copy of an issue from the "Dark Cybertron" story.
As the Transformers comic book series recently settled the long conflict between the Autobots and Deceptacons, "Dark Cybertron" represents the first major event following the war. The primary force in "Dark Cybertron" is the Deceptacon Shockwave, who has a major scheme that will affect characters across the Transformers universe. Optimus Prime, Starscream and Bumblebee also figure prominently in "Dark Cybertron," a storyline that figures to have major ramifications for the Transformers comic book franchise.
