It seems like all of the digital distributors used up their patriotism on yesterday’s sales, because none of the newly announced deals for today really have anything to do with the upcoming three-day weekend which honors Presidents Washington and Lincoln.
Apparently people like to get stuff for free. Not only is Atari’s superhero MMO Champions online free now, but the developers are giving away bonus experience points within the game too. This combination of Free and Bonus seems to be working out very well from a marketing standpoint.
Thanks to Presidents’ Day, we’re heading into a three day weekend, which means that you’ll have an extra day to loaf around playing video games before heading back to work or school on Tuesday. We have no idea how good the game will be, but this promo video for Dead Island is definitely worth watching, and speaks well for the people making the game. There’s no actual gameplay footage, it is just a little teaser about the premise of the game; zombie survival horror on an a resort island filled with wholesome vacationing families.
The title pretty much says it all, and the new video released today confirms it. In the new downloadable arcade game Shoot Many Robots, you will discharge projectiles at a large number of automatons. It even has four-player online co-op to quadruple the number of lead balls launched at metallic beings.
Finally! The original Crysis was a PC exclusive and it’s a big enough insult that the sequel is going to be released on consoles at all, but EA threw a little salt into that would by releasing the demo on consoles first. Well, on March 1st, PC gamers will at last be allowed to try out the new Crysis on our rigs with a multiplayer demo of our own.
I’ve repeatedly said that the greatest advantage that PC’s have over consoles is that PC gamers get to make mods for our games, and play mods made by other fans. This often leads to us having to suffering through amateurish crap, but there are also some terrific mods out there that are better than many full-fledged games. In fact, occasionally a mod team will create a product so good that they will be noticed by a professional developer and their mod will get turned into a full game. An excellent example of this is the Half Life 2 mod Dear Esther.
