August 2011 had its share of great PC games, including several instant classic PC-exclusive indies, and at least one AAA mega hit. Let’s take a look back at the games the PC Department reviewed this month at Player Affinity.
It’s shooter weekend on Steam for the weekend of 9/2/2011, with the entirety of the Call of Duty series on special (excluding MW3 pre-purchases and Black Ops DLCs) to celebrate the Call of Duty XP convention. Speaking of Call of Duty: Black Ops, it’s also free multiplayer weekend on the game, so Black Ops Multiplayer is free (and the Black Ops title is 33% off) and it certainly sounds like time to get your gaming on. Ever since the original Space Hulk video game came out, Warhammer 40k fans have been asking and waiting for a game that truly captures the unparalleled power of playing one of the Emperor’s space marines. Now, finally with the upcoming release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, that request looks like it’s finally going to be answered. We’ve tried out the game and are here to give our impressions on what to expect when it comes out on September 6th.
Being a newbie to the King Arthur series of strategy RPG’s I approached King Arthur: Fallen Champions with cautious optimism. I’ve never tried King Arthur before, but I’ve heard it compared to the Total War games and I have a history of sucking at those games. On the other hand, some gamers have described it as a real-time version of Heroes of Might and Magic and that has me interested to dive into the series with the latest installment in the series, King Arthur: Fallen Champions.
E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy is an ambitious independent game being released through Steam, with heavy inspiration from the original Deus Ex, while adding its own story and gameplay. It achieves its goal of re-creating Deus Ex with a cybermancy flavor — sometimes.
On its surface, Red Orchestra 2 can seem to some like it’s only
being realistic for realism’s sake. With manual ammo checking, manual
rifle bolt action, multiple people required to man a tank in
first-person, and more. However, once you look closely at all of the
individual gameplay mechanics, they all serve a purpose to improve the
gameplay.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a game that has been hyped to be the true successor to the original Deus Ex, a game that is considered by many to be a classic in the RPG genre, being one of the first to offer a large amount of choice to the player. With such high expectations, there’s plenty of weight on Human Revolution’s shoulders. Luckily, however, it lives up to the expectations, as both a Deus Ex game, and as a modern release.
