Space Pirates and Zombies Review

If there’s anything I’ve noticed in PC gaming over the last decade, its the steady decline of space games. While adventure games underwent a similar decline in popularity, they’ve made a big comeback thanks to companies like Telltale bringing the joys of adventure gaming back to modern gamers. Unfortunately space games haven’t quite had a similiar resurgence, but the guys at Minmax Games are hoping to bring the joys of space games back with their new indie title Space Pirates and Zombies.

Chantelise – Review

This article on Chantelise: A Tale of
Two Sisters
could simply go on about its gameplay, the
story, or that it is a light and fun independent title that can now be
found on Steam. And it will cover those things. But first and foremost, this is about how
two studios managed to work together to come out with Chantelise as
we know it in English.

Once upon a time, there was a Japanese
independent circle called EasyGameStation. They made fan games and
independent titles like Recettear. But Chantelise was their first
original-content game; it features all original characters and an
original story. In Japan, Chantelise has been available since 2006,
but it has not been as widely available to overseas gamers until the
release of Carpe Fulgur’s English localization this past July.

Limbo PC Review

Last summer, Playdead Studios released Limbo for Xbox Live Arcade, and it has left an indelible impact on the independent gaming scene. The beautiful art style, open ended story and puzzle platforming combined to form a unique, memorable experience. A year later, Limbo has arrived for the PC and PS3 with some additional content. Is the PC version a faithful port of the Xbox 360 award-winner, or is it an inferior experience to the original?

Atom Zombie Smasher – Review

Atom Zombie Smasher is a funny, clever indie game that combines a pinch of tower defense with a dash real-time strategy, and throws in a little RISK as well, for an addictive experience. Players control an orbiting defense platform that monitors and commands ground forces during a zombie outbreak.  While you won’t engage the enemy directly, you’ll deploy troops, set traps, and coordinate rescue vehicles all while plotting out a large-scale strategy from the safety of your satellite base.

Solar 2 Review

Solar 2, a new and interesting space-sim look-alike from developer Murudai, blends the feel of open space sims with shoot-em-up style gameplay and movement to make a truly unique game. It starts you out in an endless universe. Not as a spaceship, not as a god beckoning planets to your will, but as an asteroid. A small, uninteresting asteroid. The progression of the game comes from building your asteroid up to a planet by crashing into other asteroids, then going from planet to star, then from star to star system, and to the eventual fate of becoming a black hole.

Puzzle Agent Retro-Review

Puzzle Agent, the hybrid puzzle adventure game from Telltale Games, marked a new attempt at something unique from the point-and-click adventure specialists. Borrowing a gameplay style not unlike the Professor Layton series, and featuring the artistic style of Graham Annable, this title from Telltale does some interesting things to the already-unique genre. Billing itself as a lighthearted faux-investigative horror thriller, it seeks to differentiate itself from the developer’s usual wheelhouse by adding in the direct puzzle element, and an interesting narrative, with some excellent results.

Puzzle Agent 2 Review

Puzzle Agent 2, Telltale Games’ sequel to the successful Puzzle Agent
released in 2010, is an extended and entertaining continuation of the
first game’s story and gameplay. While it doesn’t do a ton of new and
exciting things with the formula, Puzzle Agent 2 continues where the first left off. It has a wildly entertaining storyline, some great mind-boggling puzzles,
and an overarching mystery that will keep you going “Huh…What?!” until
the end. It is better on several elements and manages to
do everything in a fresh manner, keeping players entertained throughout.

Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 PC Review

Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012, the sequel to the 2009 downloadable game of the same name,
is a Magic: The Gathering-based game that allows players to play with pre-built
virtual decks in order to duel their friends and progress through three
campaigns, each more difficult than the last. The original game was met with
generally positive reception, despite getting plenty of complaints for the
complete lack of deck building. Does this sequel pan out to be a better
experience? Read on to find out.

Jamestown: Legend of The Lost Colony Review

Roanoke was a British colony established in 1585 whose inhabitants literally vanished into thin air. Over the years many people have put forth theories as to how this happened but developer Final Form Games have come up with what I think is the best theory with their debut title Jamestown: The Legend of The Lost Colony. According to the game, Roanoke was wiped out by a joint Spanish-Martian invasion force.
