Are video games art? Well you can debate as much as you like, but a group of indie video game developers have already decided that games not only ARE art, but should have their own gallery right on 42nd street in Manhattan. The Showpaper Gallery is currently holding a Retrospective of six games from previous exhibits by Baby Castles; the Indie Game Arcade previously seen in Brooklyn.

The Games Workshop is the company behind the tabletop games Warhammer, and Warhammer 40k. This franchise is so popular that no table can hold it, and it has branched out into video games, novels, and a feature film. It was also adapted into a series of comic books, but at this years New York Comic Con, the focus was on the upcoming Ultramarines movie and the latest video game adaptation, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine.
If you weren’t a big fan of how Bioshock 2 felt like a cash-in on the rich atmosphere of Bioshock 1, get ready as there is news of a radically new Bioshock title in the works for 2012. Since the August 12th unveiling of Bioshock Infinite, more and more information is coming forward to illustrate the amazing heights it will reach. Emerging from the dank and dying underwater city of Andrew Ryan’s Rapture, Irrational Games takes the focus off Randian Objectivism in action to highlight the perils of propaganda and jingoism set in the floating sky-battlecity of Columbia. Created as a symbol of American exceptionalism at the dawn of the 20th century, Columbia has been corrupted from its original idealism. After it was involved in some kind of international incident, it has been lost to the civilized world for years; that is, until you show up.
October got off to a lackluster start, in terms of online game sales. But the second week is starting to pick up, especially for fans of off-road racing, WWII strategy, city-building, and anyone who loves fairy princesses! Gog.com isn’t holding a sale at the moment, but every day they’re having a contest that can win you a variety of free games and game-related prizes.
If zombies could feel emotion they would certainly be feeling joy right now, because Steam is selling zombie games through the roof thanks to a sale on Killing Floor and the popularity of Dead Rising 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. While Steam is selling zombies en mass, Direct2Drive’s audience can’t get enough of Civilization and Fallout, and Impulse gets a sale on Stardock Entertainment games.
Apparently it’s zombie week at Steam. They just released new DLC for both games in the Left 4 Dead franchise, and had them on sale for 66% off. Now their new weekend deal is the Co-op survival horror zombie shooter Killing Floor marked down to $9.99. In fact, everything related to Killing Floor is 50% off, including all three DLC Character packs, and the Bundle pack (Although the bundle pack actually comes out to two cents MORE than just buying everything individually).
It was a great time for game sales last month, but October is off to a lackluster start. Hopefully we can look forward to some spooky Halloween sales in a few weeks, but for now, we’ll have to make due with the meager offerings we have at the moment.
This week on PC Digital Download Sales, Impulse will be added to the weekly listings. Impulse sales will be counted the same way as Steam and Direct2Drive sales, at 3:00 PM on Sundays. Last week, Civilization V was cleaning house, and that’s still the same here, though not on Impulse. Steam also supported lots of new releases last week, but that’s been quelled a little this week.
It’s a great weekend for sales on downloadable PC games this week. All of the major online stores are either winding down a big sale, or just starting one, so have a look at this mountain of cheap games you can grab if you act fast.
