Eve Online: Incursion Preview

Eve Online is a massively multiplayer online RPG, in which player controlled corporations and businesses fight and trade for dominance in a universe and economy driven entirely by players. As the latest expansion, the 14th, Eve Online: Incursion includes an attack on EVE space by a rogue nation called the Sansha, in which players and join extra-corporate fleets to fight these NPC forces. Incursion changes include hardware and software upgrades and updates intended to improve performance, new implementations of the proprietary Carbon graphics engine, new ships and changed mechanics for older ships (Sansha Mothership, Fighter-bomber performance changes, Noctis Salvager), new loot, events, visuals and more streamlining for Planetary Interaction (the interface corporations can use to administrate captured planets).  The in-game web interface, EVE Gate, has also been improved through the implementation of forums and other social media tools. All of these changes were suggested though the Council of Stellar Management, an elected body of players that focuses on improvements and representation to their counterparts in Crowd Control Productions (CCP: the developer).

The trend at all the online game stores is to start their weekend sales a bit early, which is why we posted our Weekend Sales report at 4:00 on a Thursday.  Steam is getting the weekend off to an early (And lackluster) start with a 33% sale on F1 2010, a racing game which normally goes for $39.99, but you can now get it for $26.79.  Steam is also cutting 50% off the price of Risen, and RPG by developer Piranha Bytes.  Because all of these new sales are coming so early, Steam is still honoring their Midweek sale on Day of Defeat Source at the time of this writing.

PC Digital Download Sales 11/7/10

On Steam, discounts and new releases permeated the list. Call of Duty and Fallout stay near the top, and discounts on Grand Theft Auto and everything Supreme Commander 2 push down Civilization V. Left 4 Dead 2 is the only standard on this list. With the holiday season in full swing, maybe Civilization V will go off the top 10 sales list soon. Don’t expect Divinity II or Medal of Honor to stay on the list for long, though.

Join The Battlefield Play 4 Free Beta

Battlefield Play4Free is exactly what you probably think it is.  Electronic Arts already has a free to play version of the series, the cartoonyBattlefield Heroes, which is currently running.  Now they’ve announced the next version of the game to use the play online for free plan, but will have a more realistic design scheme, and will use a modern day setting more akin to Battlefield Bad Company, or Battlefield 2. The game is set to go live in Spring of 2011, with a beta test starting later this month.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam Preview

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was released as a challenge to the hugely popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, keeping its unique Battlefield teamwork and coordination celebrated in previous titles in the series but introducing gameplay on a smaller and more directed scale. Streamlined to a degree, with smaller maps and more limited objectives, the latest BF title allowed for greater detail and interaction with the environment and opened up new strategies and tactics that were absent in larger and more empty landscapes. Basically acting as almost a reboot to the series via gameplay and graphics, it comes as no surprise that, like BF1942 before it, BF: BC2 has in the works a Vietnam expansion that is sure to impress.
