Duke Nuken Forever “Balls of Steel Edition” Allegedly Coming Out

After hearing about this game for fifteen years, I won’t believe that Duke Nukem Forever has been released until AFTER I play it.  Even when I hold the disk in my hands and see it installing, I’ll cling to my skepticism until after I have finished the game and determined it to be a completed product.  Now the publishers of this game, 2K are trying to convince me that they’re also releasing a collectors edition called the “Balls of Steel Edition”, which only adds to my sense of disbelief.  Regardless, I’m sure it’ll look nice on my shelf next to collection of unicorn horns and phoenix eggs.

Weekend Sales Friday February 4th

It’s another day of lackluster online sales.  While you’ll probably find something below to suit your tastes, we’re having a hard time finding anything recommend.  The Electronic Arts store is selling Dead Space for half off which is $9.97.  While that’s just dandy, there were plenty of places selling it for less than that over the last few months.  This is still a good deal if you’re on the fence about buying the sequel, and want to try out the first game in the series while you wait for price breaks on DS2.

DICE Cancels Battlefield 1943, BC2 Onslaught for PC

DICE has made the difficult decision to completely drop PC support for the previously XB360 and PS3 exclusive Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2‘s Onslaught mode. This was in order to dedicate as much development effort as possible into the making of Battlefield 3, DICE’s next entry into the behemoth Battlefield franchise. Hopefully the loss of these titles will mean Battlefield 3 will be that much better, running on the team’s new Frostbite 2 engine.

Scott Pilgrim Artist Designing New Fighting Game

No, it’s not Brian Lee O’Malley.  It is Alex Ahad who has contributed to the Scott Pilgrim comics along with a few other projects. The game is a 2-D fighting game called Skullgirls, and is about a group of monster girls and goth chicks who beat each other up on a  quest for the wish-granting “Skull Heart”.

Crysis 2 Tech Spec Revealed

The hotly anticipated sequel Crysis 2 comes out on March 22nd for consoles and PC.  The first Crysis game was known for unusually high system demands which would melt lesser game rigs, and PC gamers have been concerned that the sequel would have another set of farcically powerful technical demands.

Steam Platform Starts Screenshot Cloud Beta

Steam has started a beta version of a new in-platform screenshot hosting platform (not unlike popular sites such as WeGame and XFire) that allows players to take screenshots in any game that supports the Steam overlay. Simply bind a key, and when you press it, the screenshot is automatically taken and then uploaded to your Steam community profile upon exiting the game. It is a great idea, adding yet another good feature onto the already-great Steam platform. My personal favorite part of this is that it also supports this on non-Steam bought games hooked into the Steam overlay, allowing you to use those screenshots taken in the background of the information view on your Steam library window.

New PC Game Developed With True Blood Novelist

HBO’s hugely popular vampire show True Blood is based on a series of novels written by Charlaine Harris.  In addition to the adventures of Sookie, Bill and the other denizens of Bon Temps, Ms. Harris has also written about other vampires, and a new game called Dying For Daylight will follow Dahlia, a vampiress who is in search of a magic potion that allows vampire to survive in sunlight.  Dahlia might be familiar to Harris’s regular readers; she appeared in several books which took place in the same setting as the Sookie Stackhouse novels, but which didn’t actually feature Sookie.  The game also has some new vampire characters for fans to get to know.

Midweek Sales Tuesday February 1st

After a great weekend of strong sales on great games, we’ve hit a speed bump and today’s crop of online sales is looking rather anemic. But perhaps you can find something worth your digital dollars on the list below.

Let’s start off with Gamersgate.com. They’re throwing a week-long sale on the AI War franchise, with three games and expansions in that series selling for half off at 2-10 dollars. Gamer’s Gate also has about twenty other assorted games on sale, in addition to some pre-order deals.
