Might and Magic: Heroes VI Preview

The Heroes of Might and Magic
is a series very close to my heart. I have lost many hours to the rich
turned-based gameplay that the previous entries have offered and the
sixth entry to the series looks to be offering the classic Heroes gameplay with an overhauled single-player component.
The
first four entries of the series were developed by New World Computing
and the last game was done by Nival Interactive. This entry of the
series is being handled by Black Hole Entertainment, who has previously
delved into the world of fantasy strategy gaming with Warhammer: Mark of Chaos.

Red Faction Armageddon – Hands-on Preview

I was there from the beginning with the Red Faction series when it premiered on the Playstation 2.  That first game was released a decade ago, and had the then-revolutionary feature of “Geo-mod” technology, which is fancy talk for being able to distort the environment when you used explosives.  In the first game, this was used far too sparingly, with only a few areas where players had the means, and motivation to blast their way through large sections of the terrain.  However, when the second Red Faction came out, it had significantly more opportunities to blow holes through things that got in your way.  Not so long ago, the series took this to the extreme with Red Faction Guerrilla where pretty much anything standing could be knocked down.  Now, the franchise is back with the ultimate incarnation of this gameplay premise: Red Faction Armageddon, a game where blowing up everything you see is just the start of the fun.

Console Exclusives We Want On PC: Captain America Super Soldier

You know who doesn’t like Captain America?  Communists!  You know who else doesn’t like Captain America?  Nazis!  So, when Sega makes a Captain America video game, and only releases it for consoles, what they’re really doing is calling us PC gamers a bunch of Commie, Nazi scum!  That’s why we should demand that the upcoming tie-in game to the Captain America movie be ported to PC as soon as possible.

Brink – Hands On Preview

Ah the utopian city of tomorrow!  Lots of games seem to take a liking to this notion. Unfortunately, setting a game in a perfect world would be rather boring.  You only get some excitement when that utopia goes horribly, HORRIBLY awry in some manner.  Like, for example, the population of your perfect city ballooning to ten times what it was intended to hold.  That’s what happens to the city of ARK in the year 2045, in Bethesda’s upcoming shooter Brink.

Darkspore Preview

The original Spore was a very divisive game. Some loved it for its variety, while many hated it for its lack of depth. Regardless, anyone who’s played Spore will acknowledge the game’s powerful creation engine. WithDarkspore, Maxis are going in a whole new direction for the franchise. They are going to implement Spore’simpressive creation tools into an action sci-fi action RPG.

Under the Radar II: More Games You Never Played

Welcome to the second installment of “Under the Radar”! I am a big supporter of indie games and I frequently find myself playing games that, when mentioned to others, cause some pretty blank stares. I am here to spread the word, and let you know that blockbuster titles aren’t the only good games out there. Today I’ll introduce you to an unknown game that has actually been discontinued on most distributors, as well as a cult classic hit that has the learning curve of a brick wall, and shows how it’s fun to lose!

Portal 2 – Preview

A lot of sequels add in more guns, more enemy types, or more explosions, but there’s one upcoming shooter sequel that’s adding in something else: More laughs.  The first Portal game had a few moments of dark comedy, but after a look at the first few minutes of the sequel in a video recently released in the wake of PAX East, it’s clear that Portal 2 is going to be crammed full of laughs.

Duke Nukem Forever – Hands On Preview

I’ve joked that I would not believe this game exists until after I’ve played it.  In development for fifteen years,Duke Nukem Forever has long been the butt of many vaporware jokes (Including a few of my own). However at PAX East there was a demo on-hand, and I can say that I have played it, and I confirm that the game does exist. Based on what I’ve seen from the demo, it should be fun to play for shooter enthusiasts, and a treasure-trove of nostalgia for Duke fans.

F.E.A.R. 3 – Hands on Preview

The F.E.A.R. series is technically a shooter, but it’s also full of horror too.  The first game in the series had players wetting their pants every time a little girl walked by (Or so other players tell me).  In the latest installment in the series, the development team, Day 1 Studios have added a new cooperative multiplayer mode that has players form a team to run, shrieking, from an un-killable wall of death, while an endless army of armed goons tries to block their escape.
