Troubled Characters in Skyrim

Skyrim seems to be a place of epic contrast. Extreme diversity of lifestyle are apparent through numerous cities, and some characters seem to live terribly troubled lives. Today, I met a girl in a small town, no older than six years of age. Upon introducing myself to her she says, “If you beat up my sister, I won’t tell”. I speak to her sister, who confides in me by saying she spends her time away from the house to avoid beatings from her sister and father. This to me seemed like one hell of a troubled family. What’s the daughters answer to this? Does she confide in a higher source of power who could solve the problem or does she flee from the town? Neither. Instead, she decides to learn destruction magic to defend herself. Next time Father preps her for a beating, she’ll burn him alive by cannoning fireballs out of her hands. Sweet Justice

Head to the Companion guild in Whiterun and you’ll meet a guy named Brill. The Tting about Brill is, he’s not that brill’ at all; he’s pretty shit. Whilst the rest of the Companions seem to be heading out on hunts and killing bandits, Brill is content on just getting absolutely hammered. “Sobriety is overrated” he says. This man is literally incapable of giving a single worry to anything around him. What’s amazing is the Companions don’t seem to care. They’ve apparently “rescued” him and set him up on a redemptive path of guzzling mead. Heroes.

Will The Imperial Agent Define Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Killing a space warthog with a lightsaber is pretty much the same thing as hitting a magical warthog with a magic sword. It’s neat to see a MMO in a sci-fi setting like Bioware’s upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic as opposed to the usual fantasy world, but the question remains as to what will make this game more than “World of Warcraft, but Star Wars”?

Gift Guide: PC Indie Games

When giving AAA titles becomes too mainstream, give the gift of indie to your gaming-orientated friends and family. 2011 has been a huge year for indie games and there’s a great number of indie gems to choose from.

If there’s one indie game that everyone should pick up this year, it’s SuperGiant Games’ Bastion. Its unique fusion of awesome isometric action-RPG gameplay and solid presentation (particularly the excellent narration) made for one of the most compelling experiences of the year and it makes a perfect gift for any gamer.

If you are reading this, you either live in some Third World country that doesn’t have turkeys, or you snuck away from your Thanksgiving festivities to read about video games on the internet.   When your family joins hands around the dinner table and everyone takes turns saying what they’re thankful for, your Mom probably doesn’t want to hear about how happy you are that there’s no level cap in Skyrim.  But we here at Player Affinity know how you feel.  Here are few games that we feel thankful for:

Blizzard Bringing Pandaren and Monks in Mists of Pandaria

Blizzard made a huge push to bring new players to their massively successful MMORPG World of Warcraft with the last expansion Cataclysm.  With the game’s newly announced fourth expansion Mists of Pandaria, Blizzard are making a big effort to hold onto their still massive but currently declining playerbase.

Everything You Need To Know About The History of Saints Row

In the predawn darkness between the release of GTA: San Andreas and GTA: IV, fans of open-world mayhem simulators found themselves in a bind.  A new generation of consoles was upon us, and yet the genre which contributed vastly to the success of Sony’s Playstation 2 and the coffers of Rockstar North had nothing to offer those who had upgraded.  There was simply a void.  For those gamers craving high-speed police pursuits through fictional cities, mowing down groups of pedestrians, and taking to the skies in stolen military hardware, options were limited.  Most had no other alternative than to turn back to San Andreas and patiently await Rockstar’s next entry in the series.  That’s when Volition, known primarily for their work on the Red Factionseries, stepped into the fray with their answer to the deficiency: Saints Row.

Why Play Modern Warfare 3 When You Could Play Modern Warfare 1?

We are literally days away from the  release of the next installment of one of the biggest gaming franchises ever: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. While many people may already be planning the  campout at their local Wal-Mart (or wherever else it is you go to buy games in  the middle of the night) there is a simple solution for those of us who are not  so die-hard.

Play the first Modern Warfare instead.  Wait, this is not the giant step backward that some of you may think. Here are a  few facts for you to chew on (and do not spit them back out, either). First,  this game is not dead at all. I logged in and found hundreds of populated  servers ready for my bombing runs and helicopter strafing attacks, though I was  annoyingly shot to death through walls more times than I care to admit. Whether  this happened because of cheating, or that the other players were so familiar  with the maps that they just knew the camping spots I do not know remains to be seen.

Why Play Modern Warfare 3 When You Can Play Team Fortress 2

Apparently, Call of Duty fanboys…I mean, “players,” feel that a game becomes obsolete once it hits the one-year mark. How else do you explain the outrageous sale numbers with each yearly Call of Duty release?  I know it might be hard, but instead of answering the latest “Call”, why not play a shooter that was released in the far-gone year of 2007? This shooter is Valve’s Team Fortress 2, and it was described as “The most fun you can have online” by PC Gamer for a reason (or two…or three…or…).
