Nintendo Unveils GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Invitational Details
Nintendo announced the details for the
Super Smash Bros. Invitational today including the participants, commentators and host. But more importantly, they also unveiled what controllers they’ll be using: GameCube controllers.
During the Invitational at E3, Nintendo will show off for the first time in action the GameCube controller adapter for Wii U. It’ll plug in through the front or back two USB ports and allow up to four GCN controllers to be used at once. Also shown is a
Super Smash Bros. edition controller that’ll have the Smash logo printed where the GCN logo used to be. While it is unknown if that particular controller will also be on store shelves, we are getting the adapter. Also unknown if it can be used with Wii and Virtual Console games that support it.
For the Invitational we now know that former Judgment Day and current GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley will be the host for the event, and that Wynton Smith, Bobby Scarnewman and D’Ron Maingrette will commentate.
The participants will choose a single character from a limited roster for the tourney and fight in a 4-player, 4-stock, 5-minute match where the top two advance. Rounds 1-3 will have items on and the finals, which will be one-on-one in Battlefield, will have them off. There will be a fan voted bracket as well.
The participants are sixteen of the best Smash players out there:
