Lesser-Known Marvel Heroes to Get Some Love

Comic fans with a deep knowledge of the Marvel universe will be excited to hear that some of the company’s unsung heroes will get their own feature, only with tighter budgets than their household-name counterparts.

The likes of characters Dr. Strange, Luke Cage, Dazzler, Ka-Zar, and Power Pack are at the center of early buzz to grace the big screen, says CHUD, with the hunt for filmmakers to take the reigns already being initiated.

The Losers Review

Whew, did I expect the wrong thing going into this movie. I really thought I was going to be getting balls-out action with some comedy thrown in for good measure. What I got was still great, just different than I expected. A movie more funny than action packed, The Losers somehow manages to be both total comedy and balls-out action movie. The unquestionable star of the show is Evans. His portrayal of Jensen is downright hilarious and he commands what is easily the most memorable scene of the movie. Morgan’s Clay is as cool as they come in every scene he’s in and is completely believable as the team’s leader, bringing confidence and hope to the left-for-dead and outlawed Losers.

Date Night Review

Strong performances in an otherwise average to mediocre movie are often touted as that films saving grace, bringing gravitas and charm to material that is simply, limp. What you hear discussed far less is how comprehensively a hack script can drag down its talented lead actors. Steve Carell and Tina Fey battle with the screenplay for most of the running length; a tug of war that never ends.

Pretending Date Night would be void of laughs without Carell and Fey would a somewhat narcissistic claim, yet it most certainly would have been more tedious. Date Night is directed by Shawn Levy, who is no stranger to generating this laborious plot structure. His past projects, including the Night at the Museum franchise and The Pink Panther remake, have their guffaws however any charm that can be wrung from the script is strangled by extended periods of mirthless slumber. This latest endeavor tips more towards the watchable side to be sure, but the balance remains uneven.

Alien Prequel a Go! Due Out in 2011

Ridley Scott recently sat down with MTV Movies Blog to chat about Robin Hood. Luckily for us they were able to get out some serious details about the rumored Alien prequel that has been rumored to be in development. Not only did Scott confirm that the movie was happening, he went so far as to say that they are shooting for a late 2011 release. The movie will explore the origins of the “Space Jockey” found by the crew of the Nostromo in the original film and will not feature Sigourney Weaver’s ‘Ridley’ in any way shape or form as the setting will be far before her time. Here’s what Scott had to say regarding the plot:

It’s set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley]. It’s fundamentally about going out to find out ‘Who the hell was that Space Jockey?’ The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer’s chair. Remember that?

Stretch Armstrong expands … its crew

Growing much like its iconic character, “Stretch Armstrong” has found a director and writer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision blog, The Universal Studios adaptation of the 1970s toy will be helmed by Rob Letterman, who co-directed the animated hit “Monsters vs. Aliens.” In the writers chair will be Nicholas Stoller who both scripted and directed “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” along with the upcoming spin-off “Get Him to the Greek.” Stoller will perform re-writes on Steve Oedekerk’s screenplay.

“Armstrong” will be an entry in a string of toy and game-based films originating from a deal between Universal and Hasbro which will include adaptations of board games “Battleship,” “Monopoly” and “Candy Land”.

Described as a “superhero adventure” by the studio, an “Armstrong” movie seems to be the lone endeavor with any promise, especially when contemplating the thought of a “Magic: The Gathering” adaptation.
