In honor (is that the right word?) of Piranha 3D’s release today, the time has come for a list of the top ten B horror films, those low-budget efforts almost without exception containing lurid violence and sexual content, the stark middle ground from the star-driven commercial vehicles and indie arthouse features.
Not long after the announcement that Andrew Garfield was set to play Peter Parker, casting for the female lead in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-man reboot has commenced. It’s interesting to note that this female lead will not be Mary Jane Watson, who was played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi’s film adaptations.
At their very essence spoof movies can easily lack originality. They merely mix and match the plots of earlier films, making caricature of the most memorable or overused moments or characters. Vampires Suck is quite lazy in its efforts to spoof the vampire craze sweeping both television and cinema. It simply mashes the stories of the first three “Twilight” films and throws in penis jokes, fart gags, and pop culture references. The writers wrongly assume that what they have successfully mocked in an entire genre of horror they can easily imagine with only three movies as their source.
Nanny McPhee Returns (or Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang as it was originally known in the United Kingdom) is a personal project for Emma Thompson, starring and writing both the 2005 original and this sequel. She has an obvious love for this children’s franchise and the novels of Christianna Brand. Nanny McPhee Returns was met with almost universal critical acclaim upon its initial release in the UK.
It looks as if Seth Rogen is quickly becoming a favorite over at DreamWorks Animation. Following up his role as B.O.B. in Monsters vs. Aliens and Mantis in Kung Fu Panda, Rogen will voice a ghost in their next project
Actor Josh Hartnett apparently wants to reunite with Paul McGuigan, the director of Lucky Number Slevin, for the sci-fi flick Tomorrow. Hartnett isn’t officially signed on to star in the film, which focuses on a man trying to save his family despite being trapped in time travel.
Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl and Victoria’s Secret model Brooklyn Decker will star as Taylor Kitsch’s love interest Sam in the upcoming film Battleship, which will be based on the Hasbro game of the same name, according to Latino Review. Famous singer Rihanna and SAG-nominated True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard have also nabbed roles in the film.
