Sam Worthington is out for blood as Dracula

It was a rumor for the longest time, but Australian actor Sam Worthington is now confirmed to lead the film Dracula: Year Zero for Dark City and Knowing director Alex Proyas. Also in the works for Worthington are sequels to Avatar and Clash of the Titans.

J.J. Abrams headed for “7 Minutes in Heaven”

Just when you thought it was safe to make out in the closet, The Hollywood Reporter has it that J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Mission Impossible III) has signed on to develop 7 Minutes of Heaven. 

One of the few individuals in Hollywood who can keep a secret, Abrams (via his Bad Robot production company) looks to be acting as a producer for the film, based on an original idea by longtime collaborator Jack Bender. This being an Abrams project, plot details are being kept to a bare minimum.

Piranha 3D Review

Piranha 3D isn’t so much a horror flick as it is an extremely gory comedy. How refreshing it is to be surprised by some recent films that are self-aware enough to not treat themselves too seriously. If Piranha 3D did, it would be nothing more than a dismal rip-off of Jaws. Instead, it offers one of the more enjoyable movie experiences so far in 2010. What that says about 2010, I don’t know.

Two directors wanted for “Wolverine 2”

“Wolverine 2” is gathering steam with Hugh Jackman interviewing two men for directional duties: David Slade and Robert Schwentke. Slade is believe to be the front runner.

Both directors have adapted graphic novels, with Slade making the vampire flick 30 Days of Night, while Schwentke’s upcoming film is the retired CIA agent thriller RED, which is one of the fall’s most anticipated films.

The Switch Review

It is a sad state of romantic comedies when one classified as sweet but forgettable ranks amongst the upper tier of the genre for the year. Surprisingly, The Switch is more dramatic than comedic.  Most of the jokes are so low key you forget that you are supposed to be laughing. Thankfully as was the same with another unfunny comedy this year — She’s Out of My League — strong performances and a tender heart can almost save the day from the doldrums.
