Cruise or McAvoy to climb “Mountains of Madness”

This Director Affinity is dedicated to a buddy of Quentin Tarantino’s and a dedicated schlock auteur extraordinaire. In a typical Hollywood story, Robert Rodriguez developed his fascination with film as a child. He wasn’t the conventional type, and although he went to college he couldn’t make the grades for film school at first. After spending a few years dallying in trivialities he filmed a $7000 Spanish language film El Mariachi which went on to win the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 1992.

“Preacher” adaptation has an unnamed director

Fans of the 1995 Vertigo comic Preacher know the film adaptation of the cult comic hit has long been in developmental limbo since Columbia Pictures picked up the film rights and brought Sam Mendes (Revolutionary RoadAmerican Beauty) to direct. Unfortunately, due to a lack of momentum moving the movie forward, Mendes dropped out of the project to pursue the next Bond film, which is another story. Now, executive producer Neil Moretz tells Total Film magazine that the project is moving forward with a new, unnamed director.

Angelina Jolie defies Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity”

Angelina Jolie has refused to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s upcoming sci-fi epic Gravity. She was initially interested in the film when it was a Universal project, but declined to star when it got around to Warner Bros. This marks Jolie’s second time declining the offer to co-star with Robert Downey Jr. in the film.

Paula Patton will star in next “Mission: Impossible”

Paula Patton has been cast in the next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. The actress, who is best known for her role in the Academy Award-winning dramaPrecious, was in the running for the role against Lauren German (TV’s Surrender Dorothy) and Kristin Kreuk (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li). Deadline also reports that the Skydance banner will co-finance the film, which will cost $140 million.
