“Megamind” makes mega bucks, “Unstoppable” comes in second

Megamind maintained its reign at the box office for the second week in a row. The animated comedy about a bigheaded bad guy was a hit Saturday with the children. Although it hid behind Unstoppable and that runaway train on Friday, the movie regained its strength with big family crowds and vastly outdid all new competition. Megamind collected $30 million ending in a total tally of nearly $90 million from weekend to weekend. Newcomer Unstoppable freighted $23.5 million in U.S. Currency.

PAM Top 10 Holiday Movie Preview

Friends, family, food and film. That’s the holiday season. Well, at least for the Player Affinity Movies staff, but we’re pretty sure you at least will see or think about or be asked to see one of the films on this list — that would be the Top 10 movies of the holiday season, according to PAM.

Like Unstoppable? Try Speed (the movie, not the drug)

This last weekend Tony Scott’s new film Unstoppable starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine did what Speed did in 1994, thrilling audiences with a tale of a huge machine that needs to be stopped – if only it were that simple. Let’s take a look back at the classic ’90s thrill ride.

Colin Farrell negotiating to star in “Total Recall” remake

Colin Farrell was offered the leading role in Len Wiseman’s upcoming remake of Total Recall this past week. Since the offer, the Golden Globe winner has been in negotiations to take the role.

Variety reports that this film will modernize “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale,” the Philip K. Dick story that inspired the original film, and assuming that all goes swiftly in the negotiation process, Farrell should do great work in this project. 

Huh? DeNiro and Pesci in “Uncharted”?

From the file of “Things That Cannot Possibly Be Real but We’ll Talk About It Anyways!” comes an extreme rumor that longtime friends and collaborators Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci may be reteaming for the first time in years. The kicker of the rumor? Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 has it (wrong) that the film to bring them together would be David O. Russell’s adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

Harry Potter Countdown: “The Chamber of Secrets” Review

It is day two of the Harry Potter countdown and as logic dictates it is time for a review of the second film “The Chamber of Secrets.”

With “The Sorcerer’s Stone” (or “The Philosopher’s Stone” as it’s known out of the U.S.), proven to be a success, the logical idea was to follow the same style and formula of the first film.

Unstoppable Review

This is the best movie I’ve seen in a long time, it’s the best Tony Scott/Denzel Washington collaboration, and it’s the best movie Tony Scott’s ever made. I was literally biting my nails from the intensity of this smartly directed, fantastically shot, well-written, well-acted popcorn flick.
