The Los Angeles Times’ 24 Frames blog has learned that other directors have been approached to take charge of the sequel of the 2009 blockbuster G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, even though Sommers had been attached to continue with the franchise.
Paramount’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters has had its Hansel in Jeremy Renner; now it’s time to add Gretel, who will be played by none other than Gemma Arterton. The young actress made a name for herself this year starring in the blockbuster Clash of the Titans, the wannabe blockbuster Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and the Stephen Frears film Tamara Drewe and is now looking to hunt some witches in this darker, action-oriented take on the classic Brothers Grimm tale.

It was a lackluster weekend for what should be a blockbuster time period for the movie industry. With no major tentpoles premiering, holdovers trudged into their usually spots on the charts. Lamentable comedy Little Fockers held on to the number one position with $26.3 million in sales. True Grit was a close second with $24.5 million. Tron Legacy is still kicking after a lukewarm start. It crossed $100 million over the holiday week. Paired with international sales the cyber-adventure has nearly made back its $200 million production budget.
