Newly Announced “Tomb Raider” Reboot Set for Release in 2013
In 1996, the world was introduced to adventurer Lara Croft in the video game Tomb Raider. The game was a runaway hit and became a video game franchise. In 2001, Angelina Jolie carried a film based on the games – Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – to an impressive domestic take of over $100 million. The success of that film led to the sequel, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life just two years later. However, that one made roughly half as much as its predecessor stateside. Now it looks like Hollywood has a revitalized interest in the archaeologist. GK Films has secured the film rights for Tomb Raider and looks to have a film out in 2013.
