Year-in-Advance 2012 Oscar Predictions

Is it ridiculous that I’m looking so far ahead into next year’s Oscar race? Absolutely. After all, The King’s Speech took the Academy Award for Best Picture two weeks ago. Furthermore, the majority of this year’s Oscar contenders look to hit theaters in the latter half of the year, particularly in the last three months. We don’t even know how the critics and industry groups will react to the majority of these films. All I can do at this point is guess how things will turn out, but when isn’t that the case?

Is Another “Doom” Movie in the Works?

The first Doom movie came out in 2005, and it’s safe to say that it wasn’t a hit.

Now rumors are making the rounds that Universal, who just won’t let a sleeping dog lie, is sniffing around to reboot the “Doom” franchise. How do you reboot such a “franchise?” Shoot it in 3D, of course! That’s not a punch line — they really want to shoot it in 3D.

Disney Cans “Yellow Submarine” After “Mars Needs Moms” Fails

When Disney released Mars Needs Moms, most weren’t expecting it to be a hit thanks to terrible marketing and a weak plot. However, nobody guessed that it would open with less than $10 million. Battle: Los Angeles Review

The grittier and slightly more realistic alien invasion film Battle: Los Angeles poses and addresses the intriguing question of how the military would respond in the event of a full-on attack at the hands of an unknown enemy. The answer? Clichés; tons of them. Round up the troops, grab whatever clichés you can find so we can get the hell out of this cliché, and under absolutely no circumstances should you leave a cliché behind — unless it’s for the greater cliché.
