Sports Movie Madness: Basketball Region Championship

Welcome back to Player Affinity’s Sports Movie Madness! Last week, we held the round 2 of voting to determine the best sports movie ever. You voted, and we’ve got your results, as well as matchups for the “Screen 16.”  In the basketball region, we still have a Cinderella alive and well in the competition with Space Jam knocking out number 2 seed Hoop Dreams. Meanwhile, number 1 seed Hoosiers cruised past Glory Road. Now the two winners meet up in the Regional Championship with the winner earning the title of Best Basketball Movie.

It’s clear we underestimated your love for Adam Sandler. The Waterboy squeaked into the tournament as an 8 seed, but has proven a tough out, defeating the likes of Rudy and The Longest Yard (1974). This week, the film faces its toughest test: a hungry 2 seed in Remember the Titans that has earned 17 votes to its opponents combined 4. Romantic Comedy Revamp of “Silence of the Lambs” in the Works

Well, I’m pretty sure we’ll be hearing tons of screams the world over due to this astonishing news update. Demme’s film will be getting a revamp like many other highly respected films have been over the past few years. However, there’s a startling new twist, as MGM wants to give the film more than just an update. It seems that the film will be more of a romantic comedy than anything else.

Drew Pearce Will Write “Iron Man 3” Script

According to Deadline Hollywood, Drew Pearce, who wrote the script for Marvel’s Runaways, has hopped on board to fill screenwriting duties. He and Black will work close together on the script, which could mean that Black gets some co-writing credit in the end. Disney still plans for the film to be released on May 3, 2013.

April Movie Preview


Well, the first quarter of 2011 has been a disappointment. Although a few crowd-pleasers and acclaimed films slipped out of March (Rango, The Adjustment Bureau, Limitless), none of the most hyped films have earned it. April looks to change that very quickly, with some of the films coming out tomorrow getting great early buzz. At the very least, we have 16 films to preview for you, so something ought to get it done before summer movie season kicks into high gear.

“Gangster Squad” Gets Go-Ahead, Penn and Gosling Offered Roles



Gangster Squad, the next planned film for Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, finally got the green light from Warner Bros. The studio currently eyes Sean Penn to play the film’s central character, mobster Mickey Cohen, and offered Ryan Gosling a role as a cop pitted against Cohen.
