Trailer Tracker: A Dangerous Method, Moneyball and more

As I write this, the summer
season has officially begun, but our featured trailer is not an exposé on the use
of 3-D, but the latest from oddball and inciter of controversy David
Cronenberg with A Dangerous Method, the twisted tale of a
love triangle between Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortenson) and Carl Jung (Michael
Fassbender). Also, and with a much more sun and sandals vibe is Moneyball starring Brad Pitt and scribed
by recent Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin. Rounding out this week’s picks are two
black comedies beginning with the second (and hilarious) red band trailer for 30 Minutes or Less, followed by pseudo
crime flick The Guard with Brendon
Gleeson and Don Cheadle. Crime may not pay, but do you know what does? Reading
on – it’s Trailer Tracker.

Five Acting Comebacks We Weren’t Expecting

When
you think of Hollywood’s most talented comedic actresses, Cameron Diaz
immediately pops into mind. She’s smart, witty, gorgeous, bubbly, and
extremely hilarious, but her recent filmography doesn’t really match up
with her previous successes. Her latest features include the weakly
performing The Box, The Green Hornet, and Knight and Day, but there’s hope that she can rise to the top with the Judd Apatow-esque comedy Bad Teacher.
Most
of Diaz’s weak offerings lately have more to do with poor choices in
film roles and less to do with her personal life, but some actors don’t
have it quite so easily. Some experience tumultuous difficulties and
trials in their lives. For others, it’s a combination of bad career
moves and poor lifestyle choices.

DVD/Blu-ray DISCussion (New for 6.21.11)

We
have so many themes out in DVD and Blu-ray releases this week: love and
fate, identity theft, war and history, foster care, organ harvesting
and perils of suburbia. Player Affinity’s top choices for this week is
the sci-fi thriller The Adjustment Bureau and the re-release film of the week is Kiss Me Deadly (but it does help that there are only two re-releases).
