ParaNorman Review

Through horror film conventions and a generally humorous tone, ParaNorman explores the relationship between the accepted and the outsider. In more ways than one, it’s the outsider who has the answers in this fantasy tale that does so many things right and only a few things wrong. While it might not win over some, ParaNorman is all the better for its defiance to what we’re used to in mainstream animation. It’s occasionally on-the-nose about its message of tolerance, acceptance, and forgiveness, but it remains poignant in this mostly enchanting tale.

Iron Sky Review

Iron Sky – now out on DVD and Blu-ray – is likely one of the strangest films you’re ever likely to see and not just because of its outlandish B-movie premise of moon Nazis returning to invade Earth, but also in how it goes about orchestrating such bizarre events.

The Bourne Legacy Review

While little could be done to cushion the drop in quality that was inevitable after The Bourne Ultimatum, Jeremy Renner makes an apt substitute and the thrills, wit and set pieces of The Bourne Legacy are all top notch, even if it’s far from enough to make audiences ask, “Jason who?”

Ruby Sparks Review

The story of an author incidentally bringing one of his characters to life can go a lot of different directions. Total Recall Review

Actually, experiencing a ride based on this movie would be quite awesome; its strengths are without a doubt the visual effects work, the futuristic world-building and the countless action sequences.

The Watch Review

The only thing funny in this sci-fi/comedy stinker is the absurd amount of Costco product placement. Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and company get lost in a script that’s full of lowest-common-denominator humor and alien-invastion cliches.

To Rome With Love Review

After lighting up the City of Lights in Midnight in Paris, Woody Allen takes his talents to Rome for another ensemble comedy, To Rome with Love. Although it’s packed with talent (and features Allen’s return to acting for the first time since 2006’s Scoop), it’s sloppily constructed and provides only fitful moments of entertainment.
