Comic Con Movies: Battle: Los Angeles Panel

Sony’s Battle Los Angeles has gone from zero to hero in no time at all following a revelatory panel at Comic Con. Guillermo Del Toro to direct a Haunted Mansion reboot

Fresh off his shocking departure from The Hobbit films, Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro has found himself with time on his hands. So, he’s has attached himself to a remake/reboot of The Haunted Mansion for Disney.

Del Toro appeared on stage at Comic Con following the completion of the TRON: Legacy panel immediately announcing his commitment to the project, which like the “Pirates of the Caribbean,” films was inspired by a theme park ride.

Zack Snyder penning “Xerxes”

Zack Snyder is set to write a screenplay for Frank Miller’s new graphic novel Xerxes alongside Kurt Johnstad, who helped him work on the script for 300, which Snyder also directed. Eva Mendes won’t ride with “Ghost Rider” again

Unfortunately for fans of Eva Mendes, the beauty will not reprise her role as Johnny Blaze’s (Nicolas Cage) lover Roxanne in the sequel to Ghost Rider. The actress confirmed that she will not be involved with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (the sequel under its working title) yesterday while promoting her upcoming comedy The Other Guys. According to SuperHeroHype, the only thing Mendes had to say was, “no, unfortunately,” when she was asked about her future involvement with the series.

Riddler a likely villain in “Batman 3”

Rumor number one for “Batman 3” would obviously be the villain. Fan speculation has long favored The Riddler and FirstShowing.net believes they’ve got a reliable source saying not only is that true, but that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is “interested.” The source says it has gotten hold of a Warner Bros. casting grid, which is basically a list of all parts, actors, their availability, etc. and that the Riddler was on it.

Sam Raimi will help Wyatt Earp get ahead of his time

Acclaimed director Sam Raimi is set to give Wyatt Earp a sci-fi revamp. According to THR’s Heat Vision blog, the Army of Darkness director will helm Earp: Saints for Sinners, a film based on the comic of the same name. The script will be written by Matt Cirulnick, who was one of the creators of the comic. The project will be released under the DreamWorks banner and will be produced by Mandeville Films partners Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman.

It is another big week of DVD and Blu-ray releases. The first releases of the week are action-comedies The Losers and Cop Out. There’s also the indie film The Runaways as well as re-releases of two British classics. And to coincide with the upcoming release of Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore a Blu-ray re-release of the original Cats and Dogs.
