Mark Ruffalo confirmed as Bruce Banner

The rumor hit the Internet courtesy of Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood a few weeks ago following the announcement that two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton (Primal FearAmerican History X) would not reprise his role in “Avengers.” Finke also brings this update, which is technically unofficial since Marvel Studios hasn’t said anything yet. Finke suggests that Ruffalo might make an appearance at Comic-Con with Whedon and other actors from “Avengers” at the Marvel Studios panel later on today.

The footage was short and DC’s Geoff Johns didn’t have any surprises, but The Green Lantern panel drummed up a decent amount of enthusiasm for the June 2011 film. Comic Con Movies: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark Panel

The latest panel featuring the highly regarded Guillermo Del Toro got under way at Comic Con this afternoon. This time, rather than surprise project announcements for Disney, the visionary was on the panel for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a movie he produced and co-wrote by director Troy Nixey. The trailer certainly garnered attention. The debut teaser began with a voiceover saying, “there’s nothing to be afraid of.” Subsequently actors Katie Holmes and Guy Pierce are shown all kinds of terrified as they dodge “creepy creatures” in their home.

Comic Con Movies: Super Panel

The Comic Con Super panel shed some light on the little known film by James Gunn. A basic synopsis from IMDB: After his wife (Liv Tyler) falls under the influence of a drug dealer, an everyday guy transforms himself into the Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, though he lacks heroic skills. The panel opened to fanboy ovation for Nathan Fillion who is best known for his work on Firefly. The film’s major cast and crew were on hand including James Gunn, Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Michael Rooker, Ted Hope and Miranda Bailey.

Comic Con Movies: Skyline Panel

It may not be the biggest name of the films at this year’s Comic-Con, but Skyline hopes to follow the success of films like District 9 and Cloverfield, aiming for a viral marketing-driven film without big name stars.

In attendance for the Comic Con panel were the directors, the Strause Brothers (Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem) and stars Eric Balfour (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre(2003), 24), Donald Faison (Scrubs) and Scottie Thompson (Trauma) with David Zayas (Dexter) offering a surprise appearance.

Patrick Lussier follows up My Bloody Valentine 3D with Drive Angry 3D, an action film for Summit Entertainment. Lussier attended the panel, with Nicholas Cage (Kick-Ass), Amber Heard (Never Back Down) and William Fichtner (Heat). The basic plot is the Cage plays a father who seeks revenge against the men who murdered his daughter, and obviously goes about it in a very violent way.
