Jon Favreau to direct Disney’s “Magic Kingdom”

Favreau, most famous for directing the “Iron Man” films, is currently in talks to helm Disney’s Magic Kingdom, a film in which the named theme park’s attractions come alive. This decision comes in the midst of Disney heads Sean Bailey and Rich Ross hiring several well-known directors to take charge of upcoming projects: Tim Burton forMaleficent, David Fincher for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Sam Raimi for Oz, the Great and Powerful just to name a few.

“Silent Hill” film sequel moving forward

Empire is reporting the sequel to the 2006 video game adaptation Silent Hill, titled Silent Hill: Revelations, has not only a director in Michael J. Bassett  but also a shooting schedule set sometime in the coming winter. Bassett tells Empire “It’s early days, and I’m keeping details of the plot secret for now, but it’s going to be a sequel to the first film whilst trying to remain true to the plot of game 3

Jeremy Renner up for Snake Plissken in new “Escape from N.Y.”

Jeremy Renner is reportedly close to nabbing the iconic role of Snake Plissken in Breck Reisner’s upcoming remake of the John Carpenter classic Escape from New York. The original film centered on Plissken, played then by Kurt Russell, trying to save the President while in Manhattan; as Bloody Disgusting reports this remake will see him as a “soldier-turned-criminal” who must find the President within a day of an Air Force One crash.

“Megamind” makes villains look good at the box office

It was a big weekend for three new films in Tinseltown. Animated feature Megamind led critically and commercially with a $47 million opening. That was about $10 million shy of surprise hit Despicable Me which had the advantage of a summer timeslot. Still, that villain turned softie story was produced for just half the budget of Dreamworks creation. It was a similar story for Due Date which was estimated at $33 million for the weekend.

MGM declares bankruptcy; next Bond penciled for Nov. 2012

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Manhattan Federal Court after rejecting a takeover bid by Lionsgate and billionaire Carl Icahn. It is expected that the “pre-pack” bankruptcy deal will last 30 days with major lenders JP Morgan and Credit Suisse swapping $4 billion of loans for a majority of the company’s equity.

Hardy offered role in “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”
