Shawn Levy to direct James Cameron-produced “Fantastic Voyage” in 3D

Shawn Levy will direct the upcoming sci-fi flick Fantastic Voyage; famed director James Cameron will take up producing duties. Deadline Hollywood reports that directors Darren Aronofsky, Louis Leterrier, and Timur Bekmambetov each discussed the project with Cameron upon Paul Greengrass’s departure from the director’s seat. Fantastic Voyage is based on the 1966 film of the same name, which focused on shrunken scientists trying to save the life of a colleague.

“The Roommate” moves in to number one

It was a good week for stalkers at the cinema this weekend. The youthful reimagining of Single White Female called The Roommate lurked around at number one with $15.6 million in sales. Not even close was critically maligned 3D adventure Sanctum. The James Cameron underwater thriller failed to tickle audiences, who got their adrenaline rush from football instead. The Fighter and Yogi Bear were the fatalities of this week’s charts, dropping out of the top ten.

Colbie Smulders could be the newest “Avenger”

Cobie Smulders, star of the hit CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, has been named the frontrunner for the role of SHIELD agent Maria Hill in Marvel’s The Avengers. Earlier this week, Samuel L. Jackson told Jimmy Kimmel Live that he would be reading with several actresses for an unidentified sidekick role to accompany his Nick Fury character. Now, Deadline reports that the part is Maria Hill and that Smulders could have it before the weekend is through.
