Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper join “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”

Timur Bekmambetov’s (Wanted) upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, adapted from Seth Grahme-Smith’s novel of the same name, is shaping up to be a showcase for a number of no-name up-and-comers in Hollywood today. With the title role going to Benjamin Walker (Kinsey, Flags of our Fathers), Deadline is reporting that Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) and Dominic Cooper (An Education) are joining the cast, while Latino Review has it that Robin McLeavy (The Loved Ones) has also joined the production.

“Die Hard 5” recruits a director

The fifth “Die Hard” is a step closer to becoming a reality with the hiring of a director. Noam Murro, director of the comedy Smart People starring Dennis Quaid, Ellen Page and Sarah Jessica Parker, has been tapped. Murro has also worked on some of the more impressive “Halo” commercials

Shane Black a top choice for helming “Iron Man 3”

Here’s one to make an indie fanboy melt: Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon) is apparently a serious contender to fill the directing duties left vacant by original Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau. Black and Downey Jr. collaborated before on “Kiss Kiss” and the “Iron Man” star has approval power for the film’s director.

David O. Russell opens up (slightly) on “Uncharted” details

With the Oscar season/campaigns coming to a close, more people (especially gamers ) are asking about The Fighter director David O. Russell’s next project, the live-action film adaptation of the wildly popular “Uncharted” franchise. Russell opened up recently to IGN UK, addressing concerns of disloyalty to the franchise.

A couple years after Robert Rodriguez tickled fans with the return of Red Sonja at Comic Con, even going so far as to make a mock-up poster of Rose McGowan as the heroine, the once-shelved project has reportedly come back to life according to producer Avi Lerner and the folks behind this summer’s Conan.

Bill Nighy and Stanley Tucci cast in Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Killer”

Respected character actors Bill Nighy and Stanley Tucci have been cast in X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer’s fantasy flick Jack the Giant Killer.

Nighy will play half of the two-headed giant leader Fallon while Tucci will step into the role of the king’s adviser and main villain, Roderick. Here’s a synopsis of the film from TheWrap:

It is a week to really excite or depress horror fans, depending on your viewpoint. There is Paranormal Activity 2 and then controversial cult film I Spit On Your Grave, both the original and the remake. Cameron hints at “Madness” updates

It’s no secret in Hollywood that the upcoming adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness–directed by Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) and produced by James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic)–has been a long time coming for the H.P. Lovecraft 1936 horror novella, having never been adapted in it’s long standing history. After dropping out of the directing role for The Hobbit, Del Toro went public that “Madness” would be his prime focus and that Cameron’s Fusion Camera System will be used to shoot the proposed film.

Famke Janssen will be a witch hunted by “Hansel and Gretel”

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters now has a villain. Actress Famke Janssen has been cast as “the leader of the witches” according to The Playlist. Given that little detail, she’s probably the main antagonist.

Rosamund Pike cast in “Wrath of the Titans”

Rosamund Pike will play Andromeda in Wrath of the Titans, sequel to the financially successful Clash of the Titans. Alexa Davalos, who
played the same character in the Warner Bros. predecessor, is unavailable
according to Deadline Hollywood.
