Armie Hammer Might Star in “The Lone Ranger”


Now it seems as if Armie Hammer might be playing Western dress-up with Johnny Depp in Gore Verbinski’s adaptation of The Lone Ranger. Deadline Hollywood relays that Hammer is now in talks to play the titular character in what Verbinski has described as a take on the character’s origin story from Tonto’s point of view, which makes sense with Depp playing Tonto.

Faora, Not Ursa, Cast in “Man of Steel”



Variety now reports that Traue will play Faora, a woman who has various incarnations in the comics, but always as a foe of Superman. Variety suspects she’ll be the original version of the character “as a Pokolistanian aide of General Zod. That character was an orphan metahuman with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, which allowed her to create a mutagenic virus that served as the linchpin of Zod’s plan.”

Javier Bardem Officially Signed for Massive “Dark Tower” Project



Page Six of the New York Post is reporting that Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) has officially signed on to play Roland Deschain in the film/TV adaptations of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” series. Director Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon) is preparing to start production in September and is also slated to direct the first season of the planned TV miniseries, which will be released between the first and second film.

DVD/Blu-ray DISCussion (New for 4.26.11)




The last week of April 2011 has produced few releases of note, but as a professional who understands your film collection needs, I have found some DVD and Blu-ray releases to report. Terry Gilliam and Johnny Depp fans will be pleased with the Criterion Collection Blu-ray re-release of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, definitely the most noteworthy film this week. Same goes if you are a 50 Cent fan, though I pity you.

In a startling upset, Rio stole Easter weekend from both Tyler Perry and Water for Elephants. On the back of stronger reviews and a family friendly appeal, the movie about mating endangered birds won the box office for the second week in a row. reveals that Willow Shields, a relative unknown at this point in her
small career, has been cast to play Prim, Katniss’s sister. In the
novel, she’s initially chosen for death-match fighting, but Katniss
steps in for her. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the mother of the two girls will be played by Paula Malcomson.

Ryan Gosling possibly The Lone Ranger?


TheWrap.com is reporting that Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine, Half-Nelson) is in talks to star as the titular hero of Disney’s upcomingThe Lone Ranger. Gosling is currently set to star in the upcoming remake of Logan’s Run, a burgeoning tent pole project for Warner Bros. 

Gosling’s current involvement with Logan’s Run could put a wrench in his involvement as the gunslinger as the sci-fi remake is scheduled to start shooting this fall, but “Ranger” is likely to not film until 2012. Should Gosling be cast, he would star alongside Johnny Depp as Tonto, the Lone Ranger’s trusted Native American companion.

Marvel Confirms “Thor” and “Captain America” Sequels


The summer blockbuster bloodbath of 2011 won’t kick off for another couple weeks, but that hasn’t stopped the studios behind some of the summer’s biggest films from hiring writers to work on sequels. Now, Marvel’s movie mogul Kevin Feige has confirmed to Disney’s D23 Magazine that sequels to Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger are in development.
