Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. Chat About “Avengers” and “Iron Man 3”

Much of the conversation seems to be humorous, but some interesting things have been revealed from the chat. /Film reports that Shane Black (Iron Man 3‘s director) has asked Favreau to be a consultant. That’s interesting, but what’s even more interesting is that Favreau has accepted the offer. He’ll be extremely busy for a while with promoting Cowboys & Aliens and making Magic Kingdom for Disney. Favreau also brings up a possible inconsistency in the overall framework of the Marvel universe: how would Iron Man 3 work to be a story all about Tony Stark since it (likely) takes place after The Avengers? Does he just lose all the other heroes’ cell phone numbers?

Roland Emmerich offered “Asteroids” Film

Vulture is reporting that Emmerich has seen a script written by Matt Lopez, who also penned the recent Race to Witch Mountain and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
scripts. Seeing how the game was literally two dimensional, and only
focused on a triangle shooting asteroids, perhaps a manageable script
can be mustered.

Super 8 is Number 1

Super 8 stood on relatively sturdy legs this weekend. Although meager for a summer opening, the E.T. and Cloverfield hybrid managed to knock $38 million off of its $50 million dollar budget in its first three days. Bolstered by fairly positive reviews and a nontraditional marketing campaign J.J. Abrams latest earned $0.5 million in midnight shows and another $1 million in sneak previews. The other option, Judy Moody and the NOT bummer Summer made $6.2 million; that was good enough for seventh place.

Mark Romanek Removes Himself from “Wolverine” Director List

When Darren Aronofsky left the helm of The Wolverine earlier this year, it left 20th Century Fox in quite the predicament. A matter of a couple weeks ago, however, a list of eight directors on the studio’s shortlist emerged, and now it appears that one of those eight definitely won’t be occupying the director’s seat.

Mark Wahlberg Reiterates that “The Fighter 2” Will Happen

When a film gets nominated for and wins several Oscars, the next thought is usually not “let’s make a sequel!” Such reactions tend to be reserved for action films and popcorn fare, but not so with last year’s The Fighter. Mark Wahlberg, who starred as real-life boxer Micky Ward in last year’s acclaimed hit, had been talking up a sequel for some time. In case you weren’t listening earlier, he’s now made it clear again, this time on cable television

“Daredevil” Reboot Gets “Fringe” Writer

Hot off the heels of their critically successful reboot of the “X-Men”
series, 20th Century Fox is looking to kick-start another of their
Marvel properties: Daredevil. Already having obtained David Slade (Twilight: Eclipse, 30 Days of Night) as director, they have now hired TV writer Brad Caleb Kane (Fringe) to pen the script.
It’s a risky move for Fox. Kane has been building a (small) name for himself due to the cult status of Fringe,
but has no films to his credit, at least where he served as writer. To
add more pressure to an already cooking pot, the Heat Vision blog of The
Hollywood Reporter reports that the film will be heavily influenced by
one of Daredevil’s most popular books Born Again, written by Frank Miller with art by David Mazzucchelli.

Zach Galifianakis Spills About “The Hangover, Part III”

It didn’t take long for confirmation of another film in the “Hangover” franchise, but the details of it being “deadly serious” left some of us feeling uneasy about a third installment.

Breakout star of the series Zach Galifianakis recently sat down with Rolling Stone, with the popular comedy films obviously being a subject of the conversation. Apparently this sequel is serious business already

DC Comics’ “The Mighty” Headed for the Big Screen

Get ready for an onslaught of comic adaptations that you’ve (likely) never heard of. Deadline reports that Paramount is courting the rights to The Mighty, a 2009 DC Comics publication written by Keith Champagne and Peter Tomasi, with art by Peter Snejbjerg.

The synopsis making the rounds states “The Mighty tells the story of Alpha-One, the world’s most powerful super-being, who has always been a force for good, but Gabriel Cole, a cop who’s life was saved by Alpha One as a child, has uncovered his hero’s dark plan that will put them on a collision course of an ordinary man versus a super-man.”
