Well, if you were sick of the “Paranormal Activity” series we have news that is going to sting but shouldn’t surprise you: Paramount intends to move forward with Paranormal Activity 4 to be released on Oct. 19.
It is the beginning of 2012 and we have a whole new year of DVD and Blu-ray releases awaiting us. Our first Recommendation of the Week is the DVD and Blu-ray release of the medical thriller Contagion. This Steven Soderbergh movie features an all star cast and the DVD and Blu-ray releases offer a series of documentaries that should scare germophobes even more.
Thanks to a wide
expansion, great word of mouth and lacklustre debuts from a handful of
newcomers, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol easily dominated the yuletide
weekend.
There is one particular highlight for DISCussion this week, the Blu-ray
re-release of the British movie Sid and Nancy. Punk and music history
fans will be particularly interested in this bio-pic that was one of
Gary Oldman’s first major roles in what is a basic Blu-ray release.
Gavin Hood‘s adaptation of sci-fi classic Ender’s Game could totally backfire, but either way, it will become the first film to star two Oscar nominees under 16 years old. Former Little Miss Sunshine herself, Abigail Breslin, has joined the quickly assembling cast, which already boasts True Grit starlet Hailee Steinfeld.
Director Peter Jackson won Oscars, the box office and hearts with his adaptations of J.R.R Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. He returns to Middle Earth with his two-part adaptation of that story’s predecessor, The Hobbit.
Here’s you’re last chance to get in your DVD and Blu-ray shopping before Christmas! Our Recommendation of the Week is the Mixed Martial Arts sports movie Warrior. This critical hit comes with the usual set of commentaries, documentaries and deleted scenes for your viewing pleasure.
On a weekend that was
being touted as the saviour of a recently slumping domestic box office, two of
the year’s biggest sequels opened significantly below their predecessors. Meanwhile, the fourth “
Impossible” sizzled in its IMAX platform release.
Michael G. Wilson is already thinking about what to do with the “Bond” series after next year’s Skyfall. He intends for Daniel Craig to carry on with the iconic role for some time after.
Warner Bros. must have decided that Dec. 19 is Christmas, because not only did we just get a trailer for The Dark Knight Rises this morning, but immediately thereafter, Apple also got the exclusive rights to the trailer for March’s Wrath of the Titans.
