Shocking everyone with the sixth best animated debut of all time, beloved children’s book adapation The Lorax raked in a whopping $70.7 million this weekend. Project X also performed solidly over yet another strong weekend in 2012.
With the home release of The Muppets due out this month, word has come down that a sequel to last year’s film is underway, but possibly without Jason Segel.
Sony Pictures has found yet another writer to take a crack at turning The Lost Symbol into a feature film. This time it’s Danny Strong, who wrote the hotly anticipated Game Change, which stars Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin during the 2008 election.

The comic book Bloodshot first appeared 20 years ago, recounting the tale of mobster Angelo Mortalli, who volunteers himself to become a killing machine for a witness protection program. Now, the time-tested character will get his own movie.
Olsen has been offered a leading role in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake. Mia Wasikowska and recent Oscar nominee Rooney Mara have previously turned down this role, but it’s Olsen’s if she wants it.

Though you may not have heard of it, Neighborhood Watch has had a pretty tumultuous journey from idea to theatrical release. Stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and The IT Crowd’s Richard Ayoade play a posse of average guys that fill the ranks of their local suburb’s neighborhood watch, who then must stop an alien invasion. The creative team are clearly saving the good stuff for later, and it’s hard to blame them.

New Line appears to have found no out-of-house talent suitable for directing its National Lampoon’s Vacation reboot. The company is eying the film’s writers, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, to assume the extra duties.
