This summer has been quite a bummer, Judy Moody. After the debacle that was 2010, true movie fans hoped that this year would be a comeback year for Hollywood. No more shrinking revenues or slimming attendance due to lackluster titles no one cared about. Yet somehow, even with bigger tentpoles in place, plenty of hype and excitement, and burgeoning production and marketing budgets 2011 is already being written off in favor of next year’s offerings like The Avengers, Prometheus, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises.
For all intents and purposes, Pixar’s Cars is a delightful animated fantasy that fires on more cylinders than do many works from rival studios combined. But then comes that dastardly theory of relativity. Cars, of course, must always face comparisons to the impossibly high standards achieved by other films in the Disney subsidiary’s filmography, which many have deemed masterpieces.
As I write this, the summer
season has officially begun, but our featured trailer is not an exposé on the use
of 3-D, but the latest from oddball and inciter of controversy David
Cronenberg with A Dangerous Method, the twisted tale of a
love triangle between Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortenson) and Carl Jung (Michael
Fassbender). Also, and with a much more sun and sandals vibe is Moneyball starring Brad Pitt and scribed
by recent Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin. Rounding out this week’s picks are two
black comedies beginning with the second (and hilarious) red band trailer for 30 Minutes or Less, followed by pseudo
crime flick The Guard with Brendon
Gleeson and Don Cheadle. Crime may not pay, but do you know what does? Reading
on – it’s Trailer Tracker.

When
you think of Hollywood’s most talented comedic actresses, Cameron Diaz
immediately pops into mind. She’s smart, witty, gorgeous, bubbly, and
extremely hilarious, but her recent filmography doesn’t really match up
with her previous successes. Her latest features include the weakly
performing The Box, The Green Hornet, and Knight and Day, but there’s hope that she can rise to the top with the Judd Apatow-esque comedy Bad Teacher. Most
of Diaz’s weak offerings lately have more to do with poor choices in
film roles and less to do with her personal life, but some actors don’t
have it quite so easily. Some experience tumultuous difficulties and
trials in their lives. For others, it’s a combination of bad career
moves and poor lifestyle choices.
Penguins are the rare species to have their own films. They’ve also taken home Oscars. In an effort to explain the logic behind this rich tradition, here are 10 reasons why penguins have found so much love in Hollywood and why they’re so darn cute popular.
