Marvel has Cast Jessica Jones
Marvel and Netflix have officially announced that actress Krysten Ritter will star in
Marvel’s A.K.A Jessica Jones as the title character, of course. The thirteen-episode series is set to premiere on the streaming site on 2015 following the release of
Marvel’s Daredevil. Jessica Jones was first introduced in the ALIAS comic series and the new show will focus on the character. The synopsis reads:
“After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.”
Executive producer and showrunner, Melissa Rosenberg had this to say about Ritter’s casting, "Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands. We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015."
And Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb echoed Rosenberg’s enthusiasm stating, “Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes. As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."
Ritter, most widely known for her stint on
Breaking Bad, which showcased her dramatic abilities, has also shown off her comedy chops on the short-lived,
Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23. Of course, some of us will always remember her as Gia Goodman on
Veronica Mars. She co-stars on the upcoming Tim Burton picture, Big Eyes alongside Amy Aams and Christoph Waltz.
Do you think Ritter has what it takes to play Jessica Jones?
