Damon Lindelof, one of the principle writers on television's recently concluded hit show Lost, has been brought on to perform re-writes for Ridley Scott’s upcoming as-of-yet untitled prequel to the “Alien” films.
Not only that, but it is reported that when Lindelof met with Scott and 20th Century Fox to talk about his involvement, they toyed with an entirely original idea that, “could well turn out to be a free-standing science fiction film.”
This will be the writer’s first solo screenwriting gig, though he is already involved in a number of high profile team projects. Lindelof is currently working on J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel and already wrote part of John Favreau’s Cowboy’s & Aliens, both of them with scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
Lindelof revelled at the opportunity to be involved in Scott’s return to the franchise, with the 1979 original remaining a huge influence on the writer. The film is set for an unknown 2011 release date.
