The never ending train of Mortal Kombat X information before it's April 14th release continues with today's trailer featuring new modes and how NetherRealm Studios is once again pushing the envelope in the fighting game genre. Since the beginning of the year, we seen returning characters being announced such as Kung Lao, Kitana, Reptile & Ermac. Today we finally see glimpses of the single-player story mode, challenge towers coming back in a different way and their big Faction War feature in the trailer below.
From what we seen of the story mode in the trailer, it is just small teases of the cutscenes, but knowing about the 2011 game's story as well as Injustice's remain unmatched compared to the rest of the genre, I have full faith in NetherRealm that Mortal Kombat X's story will live up to expectations in terms of execution & presentation. Arcade mode towers are back as well as the challenge towers, but split up into different types of missions that appear daily or are super difficult.
The big feature NetherRealm is pushing for in Mortal Kombat X besides the character variations is Faction War. You select a faction such as Sub-Zero's Lin Kuei & Kano's Black Dragon and compete with other players on a daily basis in offline/online fights and performing certain tasks like doing a number of fatalities, x-rays, etc. This is somewhat similar to World Tekken Federation in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 that was later taken down and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's Conquest mode to a certain extent where the online population competes against each other in certain goals, but Mortal Kombat X is definitely pushing this concept tenfold.
Mortal Kombat X is out on April 14th for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Limited and collector's editions were also announced earlier this week with a Scorpion statue on the more expensive collector's edition. Goro is still the pre-order bonus at various retailers with still no word he will be a DLC character in the future for those that don't pre-order.
