King of Fighters 2002 Announced for Live Arcade

Fighting game fans who were not whetted by last week’s Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 footage at Comic-Con will get the chance to throw down Nov. 3 when SNK releases King of Fighters 2002 Ultimate Match for Xbox Live Arcade.

An updated version of the arcade fighter King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match was originally released in Japan on the Playstation 2 in 2009. SNK, making the announcement via its Facebook page, has stated the Xbox Live version will include features from both the original arcade version and the PS2 update. Ultimate Match will cost 800 Microsoft points.

SNK has said that Ultimate Match will contain 66 characters, more than any previous installment. These include characters from earlier entries along with boss characters who will be playable for the first time. The game also includes an original character called, well, “Nameless.” I guess the naming well starts to run a bit dry after 13 installments.

According to SNK, the game’s balance has been extensively redesigned and new moves have been added to characters. All of the game graphics and music will also be updated for the XBLA version.

King of Fighters XII was released in America last year for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. King of Fighters XIII was just released in Japan this summer.
