The new high-profile drama Tyrant, set to air on FX, has cast its next star. Justin Kirk is the most recent person added to the cast. Kirk is most famous for playing Uncle Andy Botwin on the popular series Weeds, which aired on Showtime for eight seasons. He will play a sexy and mysterious American diplomat that appears to have a hidden agenda of his own. Sibylla Deen has also been cast in the show. Deen, who has done little other than a series called Home and Away, will play Nusrat, the young bride of Ahmad. The show comes from writers Gideon Raff, Howard Gordon and Craig Wright.
Much of the supporting cast is Middle Eastern, and the plot of the series centers around an American family that becomes drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation. The pilot will be directed by David Yates; Ang Lee was originally set to direct and had backed out. The pilot is set to be filmed in Morocco, although the setting of the show seems to be unknown. Director David Yates is previously responsible for the HBO film, The Girl in the Cafe, which earned him an Emmy nomination. The series is set up as a hour long drama that is sure to have enough excitement for any viewer. Stay tuned for more casting news.
