Following a small teaser yesterday, Ubisoft have now officially announced the latest title in the Call of Juarez series, a downloadable title named Gunslinger.
As predicted, the title will see a return to the original game’s spaghetti western setting with famous names form the time period, such as Billy the Kid and Jesse James, making appearances. The game sees the player take on the role of what appears to be a lone gunman, although certainly a narrative element is likely to feed in to the gameplay.
From early reports, the gameplay looks to be highly reminiscent of 2009’s Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, a title that proved to be a hidden gem for some gamers. The same first person point of view and fast, frantic style along with a slow-mo bullet time mechanic will all feature. The official tag line notes: “From the dust of a gold mine to the dirt of a saloon, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a real homage to the Wild West tales. Live the epic and violent journey of a ruthless bounty hunter onto the trail of the West’s most notorious outlaws. Blurring the lines between man and myth, this adventure made of memorable encounters unveils the untold truth behind some of the greatest legends of the Old West.”
Of course the decision to make this a purely downloadable title on XBLA, PS Network and PC suggests a somewhat smaller title than the previous games. But whether online multiplayer will feature is as yet unknown. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is set for release in early 2013, you can check out the announcement trailer below.
