Interceptor Entertainment and 3D Realms Unveil New IP Bombshell
Following the wake of a lawsuit filed by Gearbox over unauthorized use of the Duke Nukem intellectual property; Interceptor Entertainment and 3D Realms have finally brought to life a concept character from the 1990s. Known as Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison, the tough and gritty heroine is the protagonist for the upcoming isometric shooter
Bombshell.
Though details on the game are still scant, we have come to learn a few things about Bombshell Harrison and the game itself.
Not your typical action adventure herione, Bombshell Harrison's most prominent feature is her biomechanical arm, which serves as both a weapon and constant reminder to the incident which sets off the events of
Bombshell.
"The way her arm can turn into different weapons is really cool," said Frederik Schreiber Game Director and CEO of Interceptor Entertainment during an interview.
Similar to Samus or Megaman Bombshell's arm provides an arsenal of primary weapon systems but with an additional twist. The weapons which sprout from a cylindrical joint at the wrist have secondary fire modes.
When activated the secondary fire mode for Bombshell's minigun becomes a sentry gun in unique fashion; as Bombshell slams her hand downward punching into the ground her hand extends into a stand for a detached sentry gun.
"There's a lot of cool gameplay mechanics where you can use your arm as different things but at the expense sometimes of losing it," said Schreiber.
Since acquiring 3D Realms, Interceptor Entertainment has made their works an extension of 3D Realms aged yet heralded intellectual properties of the past such as
Duke Nukem and
Rise of the Triads. With
Bombshell Interceptor now has a new intellectual property of their own design personality.
Set from an isometric perspective with action adventure RPG structure,
Bombshell casts the efforts of 3D Realms in new light. No longer a side-scroller or first-person, nor a guns-blazing shooter.
For now the lure of gameplay is bait out of reach, Interceptor Entertainment has yet to release any in-game footage and only a few screenshots. Instead the developer has profiled the heroine as a whiskey drinking, motorcycle driving, military officer gone mercenary fueled by revenge and redemption, and waging war against an alien aggressor.
Bombshell is set to release on the Playstation 4 and PC platforms. Though the game has not been scheduled with a release date Interceptor Entertainment expected the title to drop in the first quarter of 2015.
