Image Comics To Donate March Variant Proceeds to Planned Parenthood
In March, Image Comics will be celebrating Women's History Month in a different way. The publisher will donate 100% of the proceeds from March’s 25
th Anniversary variant cover editions to Planned Parenthood. Overall, Image will release 11 variants in March that celebrate the 25
th Anniversary of the comics publisher. These covers will highlight significant female creators from comics history as well as Image’s own history.
March will not be the only month that Image commemorates its 25th anniversary. Actually, Image will spend all of 2017 celebrating their 25 years of publishing comics. Each month Image will release variant covers with a different theme. For March, Image decided to honor the trailblazing women throughout comics history. So far, they have released pictures of five of the Women’s History Month variants.
The choice by Image to donate the profits from these variant covers is not coincidental. Corey Murphy, the Director of Sales at Image explained the decision. “Women have come a long way in this country, and the progress that’s been made is in part due to the efforts Planned Parenthood has made in sex education and affordable, preventative healthcare... This month we celebrate Women’s History, the strides the women have made in the comics industry, and the difference that everyone—male and female—has made by coming together in spreading equality.”
So Image is celebrating their history while also donating money to significant causes. Some of the variant covers for March include
Rat Queens #1 with a cover by Colleen Doran. Another is
Royal City #1 with a cover by Emi Lenox. Additionally, the other covers released so far are
The Wicked + The Divine #27 with cover art from Chynna Clugston-Flores,
East of West #32 with a cover by Meredith McClaren and
Motor Crush #4 with a variant by Leslie Hung.
