IDW to Bring Back Rocky & Bullwinkle
IDW Publishing is bringing back
Rocky & Bullwinkle! That’s right, the witty and for-all-ages television show that spanned the early half of the 1960s is making a triumphant return with brand new adventures and hijinks. Made possible by IDW’s new partnership with Bullwinkle Studios and Dreamworks Animation, Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle the moose are hitting comic book stands this upcoming March.
Expect the moose and squirrel duo to be throwing a wrench into the plans of Snidely Whiplash, Boris Badenov, and Natasha Fatale, as the whole cast of classic characters returns—but then again, would you expect otherwise? And don’t count out
Dudley Do-Right, whose supporting story will be woven in in the same fashion as the original cartoon.
The loveable cast of characters isn’t all there is to be excited about. IDW is bringing on Eisner Award winner Mark Evanier as the series writer. Lauded for his humor, Evanier said of the show, “I watched Rocky and his friends the first day it was on and I got a lot of my sense of humor, such as it is, from those cartoons.” The interior art will be done by Roger Langridge, who is no amateur when it comes to working with classic characters, having done illustrations for
Popeye and
The Muppet Show.
To top it all off,
Rocky & Bullwinkle’s new life has the full support of the family of Jay Ward, the television show’s original creator. About the upcoming comic, Ward’s daughter Tiffany was quoted saying, “It is so exciting to work with IDW Publishing on these new and wonderful releases that will carry on the comic legacy of [my father’s] characters!”
