Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and all your favorite Peanuts are back at KaBoom! as a part of Boom! Studios newest collected hardcover called Happiness is a Warm
Blanket Charlie Brown. Written by Craig Schulz, Stephan Pastis, and the late great Charles
Schulz, and drawn by Vicki Scott and Ron Zorman, the book takes us back to the
Peanuts gang's neighborhood. Happiness is a Warm Blanket captures classic stories
of the Peanuts comic strips: from Linus’s insecurities, to Charlie Brown’s kite
woes, to Lucy’s crush on Schroeder and of course Snoopy’s adventures.
The story is mainly centered on Linus and his insecurities
with his Blanket, but as you read the story all together the book has
additional mini stories within the main story. My personal favorite was
the Snoopy adventures. Snoopy is simply in love with Linus’s blanket and
at every chance he gets he tries to snatch it away.
Happiness is a Warm Blanket is a Masterpiece. From the beginning of the book you are simply
in love with the entire gang. The stories are simple yet brilliant. You are quickly enthralled in the story, the
humor, and the charm from these classic Peanuts comic strip. What makes this book even more special is
that you know it’s a book, but it feels like your almost watching a cartoon
show unfold through your eyes.
The art of the book, although basic, reflects the innocence
and charm from a simpler time in the comic strip genre. The art captures the virtue
of the Peanuts gang. The colors are
bright and the drawings are closely similar to Schulz artwork. The character I appreciated the most was my
personal favorite, Pigpen. The way the colors just reflect Pigpen's dirty clothes
and the squiggly lines just following him on the page was perfect.
The hardcover also has additional material for the real
hardcore Peanuts fan. It has character sketches and a "how to draw" for some of the characters. Additionally there's layouts from the stories making this
collection a must own for any fan.
Overall, my recommendation is run to get this beautiful collection. It
is a masterful, charming and great read that is fun for all ages. I, for one, am glad for adding this book to my collection to share with my baby girl when she grows up.
