Halo first jumped onto the PC bandwagon in 2003 and PC gamers are in for a treat as another Halo title is penned for the platform. Halo: Spartan Assault is a brand new adventure set between the events of Halo 3 and 4 that's debuting exclusively on Windows 8 and on the Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system. Although this a new game, it isn't an AAA production in line with the mainline Halo games. Instead, it is a downloadable app from the Windows Store, a top-down twin stick arcade shooter. There's no news of yet if the game will be available for iOS or Android devices in the future.
Halo: Spartan Assault is being developed by Vanguard Games which has produced titles such as Greed Corp and Gatling Gears and will be released in conjunction with 343 Industries. Spartan Assault is the first Halo game designed for touch screen devices and will most likely feature on screen analog sticks.
Spartan Assault however is no more than a rote twin-stick shooter with Halo lore stapled on. The game is incredibly easy to pick up and play, but misses much of the depth that fans of the franchise have come to expect from the most popular shooter on the Xbox 360. Perhaps the biggest draw for the game is its story which promises to "dive deeper into the backstory of the Human-Covenant wars" across 25 missions as Commander Sarah Palmer and Spartan Davis.
The game will be released sometime next month and you can grab a look at the game in the feature trailer at the top of the page.
